Hypocrites

GT ~ I love this! Tell that PT how annoying it is to hear her talk about that stuff! This is a time to enjoy each other's company and have fun without those stressor's! She probably doesn't stop and think about how her behaviors affect you. I like all my relationships to be positive. I don't have time for negativity!

Plenty of people have weight struggles. My step instructor is normally 135 pounds. She had gained weight, almost to 150 and she was really stressing about it. Just because I weigh 100 pounds more than that doesn't mean she doesn't have a valid concern about her own weight. Being 150 when you should be 135 is traumatic. I supported her efforts to get back in shape just as much as she supported my efforts to get back in shape. I would never expect my friends to censor themselves about their issues just because my issues may be a bit bigger to handle.

And nobody suggested censorship. The underlying point of my post was that this is an individual who is successful in every arena related to health and weight yet is so cripplingly insecure as to need to resort to jr high level ego tactics ("I'm so fat" so that the other girls go ohmygod, no you're not!)

Perhaps what I am realizing by writing this all down is that I am not in a healthy enough place to be friends with someone in that state, I am perhaps still too fragile in my own recovery to also have to deal with someone in a neurotic state. I will find ways to deal with the behavior, hopefully without losing a friend.

Backstory: I'm 12 pounds away from the lowest weight I've been since I was 18 (I'm 55). I work mainly with three others: A skinny one with a potbelly, a skinny vegan who sneaks meat, and a petite slightly pudgy.

How is this work situation now?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
