Hello Everyone,

It has awhile since my last post! I am currently down 126 pounds and still have another 65 pounds to go. Since my surgery, my weight loss has been good, but slowed down a little because I started incorporating more carbs into my diet. Plus, I am having gallbladder surgery on tomorrow :-( Not happy at all, but not surprised after reading it was common for people who lose large amounts of weight within a short amount of time.

With that said, I have a few questions. Is it hard to lose weight after having your gallbladder removed? Are there complications? Am I more prone to dumping? Is it true that once the gallbladder has been removed I am more prone to gaining weight in my stomach? I have read a lot of different posts online regarding this procedure and very nervous about what to expect, considering I still have another 65 pounds left to lose. Anyone who has had gallbladder surgery before or after VSG, please, please, please share your experiences with weight loss etc.

Thanks in advance!

All the best,

Lady E.

I just had my gallbladder removed on friday, I was starting to get pains. Had an ultrasound and they found sludge but no stones yet. We decided just to take it out, I figured there was no use in prolonging the inevitable. The bad part of the whole ordeal is I just had my surgery on feb 13th, so I was only 5 weeks out. Well it set me all the way back to a liquid diet and the pain is twice as bad. But I think its just because I had 2 surgeries in less than 2 months. Anyhow I don't have any real answers to your questions as I am still recovering. I just wanted to commiserate with you :) Good Luck!

I posted this same set of questions, nearly identical, a month back and only got a few responses, most of which said it is no problem, but none of those people still had a lot to lose like me (and you) do, I still have about 40 lbs to lose. I have one non-VSG friend who had her GB removed and she blames everything on it, her weight gains, her getting sick more often, everything.

I lost an additional 12 lbs after my gallbladder surgery. I had no complications, it was done laparascopically as well. I don't dump, but if I eat a really high-fat meal I might have some diarrhea the following day. I don't know what "gain weight in my stomach" means--our remaining stomach is tough and fibrous and fat cells aren't found there; if you mean in the abdomen area that hasn't happened to me.

Some people need a hook on which to hang all of their problems, and I think Globetrotter's friend is doing that with her gallbladder surgery. Just keep to your plan and you'll be fine. Gallbladder and bile have little to do with overall fat loss--fat digestion, yes, but not weight loss.

I had a lapband in 2006, GB out in 2007, lapband out in 2011 and sleeve last week.

Except for the memories and absence of pain, there's no different between pore & post GB. I was told the area where it was removed might twinge if I ate a fatty meal, but honestly there's no difference for me.

If you search for gallbladder you will see tons of threads. Here is one that came up yesterday. Lots of sleeved people sharing their results.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
