One Week After Vsg And Food Question

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I did my VSG on March 28 and today I completed my first week. I think I am doing one mistake in diet. Can someone experiece person in this topic can explain me ? Here is some concerns. I started eating cotage cheese and since last 3 days and as well as lentil sup and brocolli and cheese Soups. IS it too early? Also I do mix some spiced souces ( Not very spicy but mild ) with cottage cheese since yesterday . Am I doing some big mistake in this food in my first week ? I am eating almost 60 to 70 grams of Protein and enough liquids with my Vitamins. I do not have any pain or other issues. Please help as after reading these forum everyone is drinking very clear liquid in first week versus me already in non clear liquid and all other things mentioned by me.I am feeling scared right now after reading other posts.

Thanks,

Hgor

I was told by my dietician, clear fluids for the first 2 weeks, puréed foods the next two weeks and then soft foods for another two weeks. After that I could start to introduce solids again. I'm still doing puréed Soups and sorts and I was on the tail end of week 3 since post op. I had mine done on Mar 12th. I would consider the stuff you're eating to be puréed - soft foods.

there is also no standard diet you will see a wide range of what people have been told they can and cannot eat

I came home from the hospital on a soft/purée diet, I do that for 5weeks then I start adding regular food slowly.

I guess it all depends on you and what you can tolerate. I'm getting almost 90g of Protein a day and 2 meals of puréed. I try and get Jello in me as well. However, doesn't always happen. I'm down 21lbs but that was my first two weeks. I've been at a stand still for almost two weeks and have been back to the gym for a week.

I need to get the weight machine brought out... but it can wait another week or two. I am orders not to lift anything more than 5 pounds for at least 6 weeks post op...

Thanks guys for all prompt reply. The biggest worry I have is did I commit a big mistake by adding spiced sauce (made with Thai chillies) in my cottage cheese in first week itself ? That chilli thing is killing my brains right now.

Every Dr is different. I was on liquids for 7 days, purees for 3 days, now I'm on the 6-8 week mushy diet. One thing I was taught from my teams of Dr's is to not be afraid of spice, they'll actually be our friends. First day of mushy foods my hubby made his spicy chili. It was fantastic. :)

Everybody is different and everyday nutritionist has their own way of doing things thru shear experience... I understand that some people may do a 2 week like diet then a colored liquid diet mixed with puréed foods then they try their luck with solids.

What I can tell u is that there is NO real solution but the following necessity:

1. Sip, sip, sip daily,

2. Get in your 70-90 grams of Protein,

3. Jog or run minimum of 4x per week;

4. And when you're not jogging or running walk, walk, walk

5. Drink at least 30 mins to a hour after you eat and a hr before,

6. Eliminate fried foods and sweets,

7. Cut down on carbs

These are the 7 greatest laws of sleeve success in MY book. Some may agree other may not, but through my research (and I've did extensive research, because I'm a paralegal with a curious george mentality lol) this is what post sleevers I've sat down spoke to told me.

Damn I prolly drifted off topic lol

But back to my point, besides those 7 laws everything you will hear from drs, dietitians and nutritionist will always vary...

What's good for the gander isn't always good for the goose. I think that's how the saying goes lol

I had my sleeve March 28th. I was on Clear Liquids for three days now full liquids till next Wednesday. I am tolerating everything well and I honestly and afraid to veer off the diet my doc thinks is best for fear I will mess something up. That is just me, being paranoid. I walk about half a mile a day so far and I am slowly increasing it,just listening to my body. I still get tired and dizzy if I do too much. I am getting in two Protein shakes a day lots of creamed Soups, fruit bars(I spit out the large chunks of fruit for now),broth sometimes, crystal light and Water. I am doing great !

So I just wondered, did your doc give you a "set" diet with do's and don'ts ? I say if you tolerate everything fine then go for it !!! What Jimmygotsoul said what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander :)

I would call your doc, but I would really lay off the spicy stuff until your stomach is healed.

Best thing to do is consult with the nutritionist you met with before surgery. They are there for you and can help alot. . . also your surgeon should be able to help with that. Good luck

2. Get in your 70-90 grams of Protein,

5. Drink at least 30 mins to a hour after you eat and a hr before,

I told a little differently

50g Protein min for women

70g protein min for men

Don't drink and 30 mins before or after eating

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
