Will I Ever Be "normal"again?

Recommended Posts

I am set to have my surgery on 4/20. As the surgery date draws nearer, I am pondering my new life. I love Water now and I wonder will I ever be able to enjoy water like I used to? I like raw veggies and I wonder if I will ever be able to enjoy those again. I keep thinking that maybe I can do this without surgery but as soon as I stand up, the pain in my ankles, feet and one knee quickly bring me back to reality. I don't want to have giant plates or stuff myself every Thanksgiving, I just want to be healthy and enjoy life.

I'm a week out and still enjoy Water, I just have to take tiny sips instead of gulps or chugs. I'm allowed to bring in raw fruits and vegetables after 8 weeks.

Woo hoo!!!!! I do love downing a bottle of Water but sips are cool and as long as I can enjoy raw veggies during the summer, I am good. I was told this surgery decreases your desire for junk food. I hope this is true because I am a carb addict. Otherwise, I eat pretty healthy.

I can chug half a mug of Water but then I feel full for a little while until it goes through my system.

I can eat ANYTHING without discomfort. Speaking of raw veggies, I just had some radishes....

I can drink Water pretty much like I did before . I also can eat raw veggies with no problem.. So yes you will be normal again.. But a new normal.

You're gonna be fine - better than fine! I'm 8 months out and can eat raw veggies no problem. Water is a must, although I get full if I gulp it too fast. The only things I can't eat are rice, Pasta, and potatoes. They make me feel gross. Congrats on moving forward! The grass really is greener over here!

I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to order the "cowboy cut" of prime rib just to slake my appetite! My idea of culinary heaven will be the day I can eat a few ozs. of prime rib, 1/3 of my baked potato and leave there, fully satisfied, to the same extent that the 24 ouncer used to satisfy me. I'm one week post-op so hunger is not an issue with me at this time, just dreams of revised standards of normalcy as it pertains to my new eating habits.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
