Is There A Second Part To The Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Can you go into more detail? You don't post your surgery date, but by your join date and the fact that you are posting in the Success Stories forum, I am guessing you are post sleeve.

Are you not feeling restriction? What percentage of excess weight did you lose?

As far as a second part ... I'm guessing they could go back in and make the sleeve smaller if you original sleeve wasn't sewn tight to the bougie. But, I'm going to guess that isn't the problem ...

If your issue is not feeling the restriction, then I would try to figure out why not. Are you drinking liquids with your meal or right before/after? Are you starting with Proteins first? In other words ... are you doing what you are supposed to be doing and not doing the things you aren't supposed to be doing?

When I do what I am supposed to do, I feel the restriction, sooo ... don't know why there would be a second part to the surgery.

When did you get sleeved?

The sleeve use to be a part 1 in a two part surgery. The second part was a RNY I believe. It was used to lose enough weight for the rest of the procedure to be complete. Doctors found that people were losing enough weight with the sleeve alone. This is when it became a stand alone procedure.

Okay so my surgery was on June 29, 2011 I do feel the restriction but I am NOT following a diet. I crave sweets & I'll eat them and that's it. I feel fatigue most of my days and I have really bad body aches and headaches. I need to get back on track and need guidance because I'm not happy with a 90 lb weight loss.

The duodenal switch uses a sleeved stomach along with rearranged intestines to provide malabsorption along with restriction, so the second part of the DS (the malabsorptive part) can be done as a second stage if the sleeve itself does not provide enough weight loss or if there are regain problems.

Well, I think you're in luck! You have a simple solution and already know what you need to do. I would recommend going back to square one. You've done it before, you have to do it again.

It's like the person who goes into the Dr and says my arm hurts when I do this, and the Dr replies, well then, don't do that. You crave sweets and eat them ... feel like crap and don't lose weight ... well ... guess what my advice is going to be?

Get rid of all the sweets in your house. Don't buy them and if someone gives you a box of chocolates, say thanks and give them to someone else. Make their day and yours as well. Don't give into the mindset of, "If I eat just one, it won't kill me" ... it will. Just get rid of all the trigger foods. There's another old saying ... sit in a barber shop long enough, you're going to get your hair cut. Best way to avoid getting a hair cut is to not walk into barber shops.

Don't think I'm immune to this, by any means. I know these demons as well and battle them daily. But, I exercise a lot and when a chocolate bar is staring me down, I know I am going to have to run a mile to balance that bar ... then I grab an apple instead ... (sometimes :))

Thanks for your advice! I really appreciate it and I will go back to square one and start over...I figured since I can only eat small amounts it would be okay for me to eat sweets but it just slows down my weight loss and makes me tired. Thanks again! :-)

Yes, I just came off of a 4 day birthday bender for my 7 year old to be followed up by an Easter Egg hunt. Cupcakes, ice cream, chocolate ... oye! I did give in and I physically felt like cr@p afterwards. I think with our new sleeves we are more nutritionally sensitive to these swings.

More likely, this is how "normal" people react and it is just new to us. It is what keeps them from going on these sweets benders ... I'm learning ... sometimes you have to hit me over the head ... but I learn ...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
