Recommended Posts

I had my surgery done Monday and I can't keep anything down... Im not hungry or thirsty but I know I have to get some Water in or I'm gonna get dehydrated! Is this normal at first?

I'm a week out and have had no problems with nausea or vomiting. I've had some painful moments if I didn't want long enough for the next drink, but they only last a few seconds, sort of like a gas bubble shifting around.

Have you tried ice chips? People seem to struggle with Water. I can do way more hydration through ice chips than I can through sips of Water. I can barely drink an oz of water at a time, but I can eat on ice chips almost constantly.

If things get bad, go in for IV fluids.

This is definitely normal you just have to force yourself to sip on liquids all day even though you dont want to. Try maybe some warm broth if your allowed or sugar free popsicles or Jello. Those things make it a little easier to get in liquids at the start.

You can try Jello too...and sugar free popcycles are grear just crack them in a bowl and eat the pieces....seems to go down without the sleeve even noticing...gotta trick her sometimes..

I am way bad about Water, I didn't like it before surgery and I still hardly can gag it down...Vita Water has calories but will slide down pretty easy and keep your energy up and keep you hydrated...I tried a few and the only one I can pallet is the power-c dragonfruit

Try taking small sips of gatorade throughout the day. You probably need the electrolytes! Don't worry about calories, you need them at this point. I hope things improve for you :(

Popscicles saved me. Mils also help. I'm 5 weeks out and now cant stand Water. Even most drinks taste like soap water to me. But I get the fluids anyway I can.

I also just had my sleeve on Monday. I was told to only consume warm liquids. I was having quite a bit of trouble with spasms and the cold ice chips were agrivating the situation. I did what they suggested and that really helped me.

Good good. Ice was my best friend that first week, I tell you what. It was the only thing that felt really soothing. I'm kinda backwards I guess!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
