Protein - Brands?

Recommended Posts

I did not try powdered Protein. I drank the premade stuff. Iso-Pure seemed to be the least evil tasting. You can get it at GNC and it is carb free. The Alpine Punch and Grape flavors were better.

Reggers:

The chocolate Sportpharma brand is delicious and has 25 gms of Protein per serving. I bought it at my local grocery store where it costs about .47 a serving. I know it comes in big cannisters so it will probably will be even cheaper. I love the Fruit drinks from protica.com but they are very expensive (almost $2.30 per). They come in a shatter proof pre-measured containers however, so they are easy to travel with. Anyone else have suggestions????

If you like the taste of Protein powder (which I do in milk based drinks like fruit smoothies) I like Puritan Pride's powder. They can be bought online and shipped to you. I haven't tried unflavored yet, I am still waiting to find out about being banded.

Unjury is the best one I've had. Today I picked one up from Kashi Go-lean that isn't too bad. The only reason I'm on liquid protien though is because of DENTAL work!! lol

I second the vote for the Syntrax nectar. I love the Lemonade and the Cappuccino flavors. I've replace my morning latte with a nectar latte - I use a little cream to add fat since I don't believe in low fat eating and the Nectar is fat free. It's wonderful stuff. You can get it at bariatriceating.com or at a store near you. The online store sells sample sizes and a smaller 1 pound container if you're wanting to just try it first.

I totally recc. trying SOY based Protein powder as opposed to whey. It tastes so much better. Not bitter and chalky. Specifically, the GNC brand protein powder. It's 15$ for a pretty big canister. My only complaint is that it is a little sweet -- not fake sweet - just sweet.

I'm still 4 months away (if the insurance gods approve) from my surgery, but thought I would try some of these Protein Shakes you folks suggest. Have any of you tried Bolthouse Farms "Perfectly Protein? " It's vanilla chai tea with soy protein - 10g of protein per serving. It that good, bad or completely inappropriate for the band? It tastes great, so if it's the right stuff, I'd like to use it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
