Oh yes, the crazy roundabout of DOOM! It was entertaining to watch it and see the close calls from all the cars and buses.

Tijuana is no different than any big city in the USA. As long as you dont venture off into the unknown, you'll be just fine. The hospitals are in the best part of tj, and the hotels are usually gated and have guards. Medical Tourism is what keeps these hotels and hospitals and Dr's in business, our safety is their upmost concern.

Exactly! My friend that came with me couldn't believe how nice and accommodating everybody was. I told her medical tourism is big business. They want us to tell friends and send them!

I just got back from TJ a few days ago. I went with my friend who was going to have surgery with Dr Ponce. I also went in December with my sisters for surgery. both times we had good experiences. I was not afraid at all. I walked around a couple times by myself this time, during the day of course. I didn't go out after dark, but its only because I didn't really need to. there is a door man at the INT hospital, and he locks the door and sleeps there by it at night. We also had good experiences at the border both times. and one of my sisters didn't even have her passport! I did not stay at a hotel, we stayed at a recovery house which was located out of town in a gated community. very nice! hope this helps.

Hi,

Check this site out. You should get a lot of good information from it about going to Tujuana, Mexico.

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis_pa_tw_1168.html

I would be a little careful about going there, but that is only from some of the things that I have read.

Hugs and good luck,

Suzanne

People do not take the time to read the facts. They listen to the media and we know how they are. The fact is there are about 17 violent crimes per 100,000 people, a lot less than most major cities in the U.S. We hear about the drug cartels, well, we have them here in the states too, we call them gangs. You can find trouble anywhere you go regardless of what country you are in. As long as you are not where you should not be doing what you should not be doing, you will be fine. I have found the people of Tijuana to be very friendly and they have some great places to eat, 4 ounces at a time.

I actually spend quite a bit of time in Tijuana and I agree with several posters, it is the driving habits that scare me more than anything. The good news is since I have lost my weight, I can run across the road a lot faster now.

LOL and you really do have to RUN across the road, because they aren't stopping.... heck, half the time there aren't even lines on the roads! The traffic circles in downtown TJ are a terrifying place! LOL

This info makes me feel much better! I'm scheduled with Dr Rodriguez on April 3 and I'm going alone so I find comfort in reading all this.

LOL.. The drving is crazy! My daughter is a NASCAR driver and she says it's safer on the track then in MX. But the area is safe from violence... We're going back next fall, love it!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
