Day 3 Of Liquid Pre-Op

Recommended Posts

Got to tell you, I really didn't expect it to suck quite this much. I was okay days one and two, but here I am on day three and my stomach won't stop growling. I'm having my Protein Drinks plus an additional 100 plus oz of Fluid every day. My first day was thrown off because I found out that my chewable Vitamin has 1g of carbs. Flintstones has 3 per pill so watch out if you are using those. I had to redo my whole plan for the day because I already had planned out the max of 30 carbs. Beef broth makes me feel like I am getting something I want and I have been plowing through that stuff. Also, loving the Jello. I think whats bothering me the most about today is that my brain is starting to feel fuzzy from extreme lack of carbs. Took me 40 minutes to pay bills today instead of 10. I feel like I can't form a coherent sentence half the time. I know it is just going to get worse too. I have been sleeping a lot of my liquid diet time away. I have to take muscle relaxers for a problem in my back and with no food in my stomach I go into auto nap mode within 30 minutes of having taken my pill. I know this is going to get better and not worse. I just needed to whine. Anyone have a particular food they couldn't get out of their head? I'm really not thinking about anything but avocados. lol I guess that could be a heck of a lot worse!

I'm with you....I'm on my third day too, with a surgery date of April 16. Same growling stomach, same lack of energy, and yes, sleeping alot. Headache too, but they say all that will pass in a few days. Keep your eye on the prize...only a few more days to go. We can do it.

Oh man... I am on day 3 of my liquid diet and my office window faces a cafe with an outdoor patio- I almost went ballistic when I saw the lunchtime goodies!

My pre-op diet is pretty strict, only clear liquids- i.e. Isopure Fruit drinks, Water, sf popcicles, tea & broth. No Soups, bullion, dairy and not even Protein shakes!

I have been sucking on SF cough drops and rationing my chewy Vitamins just so I can have flavor in my mouth- lol!

Im nervous about surgery tomorrow, but at this point im starting to think that I prefer surgery over this hunger!

To all those that have a LOOOOONG pre-op diet, I feel for you and wish you the best!

-Kat

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
