This May Be A Dumb Question

Recommended Posts

Am getting sleeved on the 28th of April. And they do removed the stomach that is cut from u and take it out of ur body right? I have heard they reattach and let it inside you. That freaks me out.

Leave it inside you. Sorry, typo.

They remove the stomach. Look at the posting called "Greetings from tijuana" It has a pic of the stomach they removed from her just the other day.

Just remember: There are no dumb questions- only dumb people. hahaha  sorry, couldn't resist!

It's not a dumb question. 2b is correct. The old stomach goes by way of the medical waste pile out back!! (boy I'm a riot tonight!)

No, the stomach is removed. It's not reattached. . .that would kinda freak me out too knowing that my cut away stomach was reattached and flappin' around in there. . ewwwww. . . .

With the RNY they leave the remnant stomach behind, hanging around not doing much except causing the occasional trouble, but with the sleeve (or DS, which uses the sleeve) it's gone.

The excised stomach is completely removed and ultimately torched. :) (A week later and that particular incision still smarts.)

Kelli my question might be the dumb one but here goes.......

How do they take the stomach out? The incisions are small aren't they so how will the stomach fit through? Or will they break it down inside then squeeze them through the incisions?

For me I have 4 very small incisions and then one 2 inch incision above my belly button. They pull it out through the big incision.

Oh it fits through the incision. If you have a strong stomach here's a video of the whole procedure. There are several on YouTube.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
