Questions About Airplane Flight After Operation

Recommended Posts

I am traveling alone to Mexico and although I am traveling with my small carry-on only, I am worried about getting it up to the overhead bin...I would think they would help me if I ask. Also, what about walking a long ways in the airport to catch another flight...I do have plenty of layover time, so I guess I could walk it just fine, but hopefully, if I need a ride on a cart I can get help.

Thanks for input.

most folks are very helpful when traveling... If you ask a flight attendant or even a nice gentleman around your seat I'm sure someone would help you. While walking is always the best you can always request a cart or wheelchair to get you from one gate to the next. It all depends how you feel.

btw... I traveling to Mexico for my surgery too.... April 16th!!! :)

Best of luck to you!!!

If you use a wheelchair, you can ask that 1 be waiting for you at the next airport, that way you get on the plane before everyone else and the person that wheels you on will put your bag in the overhead compartment if you have any problems.

I felt okay walking around the airport and a gentleman helped me fit my bag into the overhead bin. I took it down myself when we landed and had no problems, it didn't weigh much and gravity helped on the way down. I'm sure you will do fine if you choose the non-wheelchair option.

I had wheelchair assistance and it made all the difference. I had them put me in one right at the front of the airport. They skipped the line for me in check in and in security and took me straight to my gate. It was a relief not to have to stand in line so long and worry about being jostled. I was allowed to board the plane first, before even the first class people, and the flight attendants put mybag into the overhead for me without my even having to ask. There was a chair waiting at the next airport to get me to my connecting flight. I could have walked it, but I was feeling weak and tired and swollen and was VERY glad for the help.

I broke my leg in 2 places when I was in Europe and I was by myself (traveling for work) and had to travel 20 hours back to the U.S. I had 2 connections and had to depend on the kindness of others to help me with everything! Tell the airline that you need wheelchair assist and someone will be there to help you and wheel you around to your connection :)

good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
