I Am 5 Weeks Post Op And Suddenly Feel Like I Have Something Stuck In My Throat. Help!

Recommended Posts

Please someone help me. Over the past 24 hours I feel like I have something stuck in my throat. It is very uncomfortable. I havent been able to eat anything today, and threw up when I tried. I do have terrible heartburn issues so I take over the counter meds for that, but this is a different feeling. I have felt really crappy today, and dont know why. I do know however, that I ate some marinated cucumbers yesterday. They didnt bother me at all. I have no idea why this is happening buy I am starting to get really worried. Any idea's of what is happening? I am desperate.

My wife just went through this a few weeks also. She's now 9 weeks post. It started when she ate chicken, going from soft to regular foods. It just takes some time. She went back to Protein Drinks for a few days, adding in Jell-o and then we added pureed foods a little at a time. If it stays with you move than a few days, see your doctor.

I haven't even been sleeved yet but I can tell you that cucumbers are notriously famous for causing heartburn and stomach upset especially if underipe and with skins on! I get immediate stomach pressure and burping right after eating them. Hope you get to feeling better soon. :)

I think 5 weeks post op is not the right time to be eating cucumbers. I wasn't on stuff like that until 8 weeks. Try softer foods for a couple days. Has your doctor moved you to regular food already? that seems awfully soon to me. your sleeve needs time to heal, and it probably can't handle stuff like that yet, so you have a stuck feeling. Do you have the slimes too with it? Do you have a nutritionist or dietician, and were you given an eating plan? Please don't try to rush your eating. Your time will come when you can eat anything, but 5 weeks is too soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
