Rebounder ?

Recommended Posts

I have a bad back (fusion 2yrs ago) and I'm looking for a good low impact excersize. The rebounder sounds good but I've read some have complained it was too hard on thier back. Anyone here have trouble with it? I'd obviously be starting off real easy...

;)

Thanks for the replys guys. I can't tolerate much more walking then I already do. What I'd like is something to help strengthen my core muscles. I use an exercise ball at home and it's gotten sooo boring. I found the rebounder on sale and I was hoping it would add a little variety. I can do Water aerobics (can't do much kicking/regular swimming) but I can't find a local class to attend. It may be shallow, but I don't want to go to a public pool full of kids and try water aerobics until after I get banded lol.:nervous

I also have problems with my back and legs. I can't get enough exercise. I would probably be down a lot more if I could. Our YMCA closed and I don't have a pool. Walking is very painful. If anyone has any ideas for me, I would be eternally grateful.

you can start on the rebounder from a sitting position....and you can add increasing amounts of 'rebound' as you adapt to the sensation...<snip>

The primary effort is with your calf and thigh muscles, and your hip extensors (gluteus maximus, etc)....trunk erectors should be in neutral upright position with no forward lean. Knees/ankles/hips control the action. Good price and only mild risk of downside. Plus you can always 're-yard-sale it' if it doesn't work for you....

Thanks Jack! Just what I was looking for. I didn't think about being able to sit on it to exercise. I think I used the term "core strengthening" incorrectly and the effort you describe is what I'm looking for. And you're right, I can always find it a good home if it doesn't work lol.

My fusion went great and got me out of the house after being down 2 yrs. It was all done anteriorly with no insision to my back. I still have an iffy disk above the fusion and ongoing problem with my SI joint. I have constant "popping" in my hips/groin when the joint gets irritated. (More medical info than y'all probably wanted to hear about :nervous) My goal is to get banded, loose weight and strengthen it!

Well, I went out and got a rebounder and did a mini workout for about 20min. The DVD shows your feet leaving the mat about an inch but I just kept them planted. I can see how this thing can give you a good workout! Even with the little bit I did I could feel my muscles working. It was actualy a fun exercise. (I can't believe I put "fun" & "exercise" together!)

:faint:

Robin, I'll let you know how it goes after a few workouts. I can feel it in my lower body but no pain yet. This might be an option for us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
