Losing Too Quick! Am I Crazy For Complaining?

Recommended Posts

I lost 53 lbs in 7 weeks. . and a total of 150 lbs in 1 year. My hubbie thought that i was going to die. . . he was so upset cause the weight was flying off. . . then i went into a 7 MONTH stall . . . now that was something to complain about, but whatever, I wasn't gaining and that is what i worried about more. . . then it stopped and i lost an additional 10 lbs and that was it. . . . now at 3 years out i have surpassed my doctors goal for me, and feel so much better about myself. I fit onto things i could never fit before, like airplane seats, horses, bicycles, etc. . . i can walk up several flights of stairs without thinking i need a breathing apparatus (LOL) and so on. . . don't worry, it'll stop eventually. . . your body gets to a point and just stops. . .good luck and keep up the EXCELLENT work!

One reason why I posted the question to begin with was because someone told me that her brother and sister-in-law both had WLS and her brother lost all of his needed weight and couldnt stop losing and became very very thin. He was weak all the time and he became a different person. I would assume in most cases your body knows when it is time to stop losing and then you just maintain the proper weight you should be.

I was sleeved on 01/10/12 and have lost a total of 58 lbs (5 of that since last wednesday) I feel like I'm losing too fast as well and approache this with my physician at my last appt last week. He stated that the weight loss should slow down in a few weeks. While I'm excited over teh weight loss, I dont want to lose it so fast that I look like a dripping candle lol

My only complaint is that I am NOT getting enough calories, Protein in. NOTHING tastes good anymore and I'm just repulsed by food after just a few bites. I have NO desire to eat and just have to make myself eat when I do. I'm pretty much living on crackers, cheese and kool aid and unsweet tea. I can't stomach the Protein shakes anymore at all. I am making sure that I get all my Vitamins in though so hopefully that'll help somewhere along the road.

This is just alot different than I expected. I'm not regretting it, just wish something tasted good.

In my first month of having my lapband I lost something like 48 lbs.

I've had my sleeve a week and I have no idea what I've lost. I'll get weighed tomorrow at my post-op appointment.

From my experience as a former fast loser, enjoy it while it lasts. It's going to slow down eventually. When my brakes hit I spent about a year at the same weight (not my goal weight) before I was able to start dropping pounds/sizes/inches again.

BTW, in your first few weeks estimate that about 40% - 50% of what you lose is fat mass, so you've probably lost about 20 lbs of fat. The rest is fluid-based. If you're feeling hesitant about your numbers, that may help.

You and I are about on the same schedule, have lost similar weight and have about the same goal. My difference is that I still really love food and have been eating like a gourmet. I get about 700-800 calories, 60-70 grams of Protein and low on the carbs and fat. Due to the fact that I don't eat much, I have been eating salmon, ahi, steak, lobster, shrimp and good BBQ.

Did the doctor have any ideas why food repulses you? Have you tried Greek yogurt? Hummus? Peanut Butter? Nuts like almonds, pistachios and walnuts? Walnuts are super with sharp cheddar and apples.

You can also use that Protein powder for other than shakes. You can bake with it. I just made a protein lemon cake the other day. It takes 5 minutes and uses sugar free ingredients. This cake goes in the microwave and can be made into as many flavors as there are Jello and Jello pudding flavors.

Sorry. See. I like to talk about food. What makes me happy is that I can eat what I want (I choose healthy foods) and I can eat like a normal thin person.

I for one hope that the weight loss doesn't slow down yet. I know how to up my calories with the room I have in my stomach when it comes time for maintenance.

Yes, I have some excess skin, but I really could care less. Plus I'm starting weigh training. Something like that may improve your appetite. Good luck.

These are from The World According to Eggface. She also makes Protein ice cream. Her other recipes are great too. She is a Gastic bypass patient that was once over 300 pounds. She is a slim fit thing now and she loves to cook and eat. She has a real healthy philosophy about weight loss.

The cakes are not lowfat, but are sugar free, delicious and full of Protein. You probably could cut down on the oil just a bit. Mine was moist enough. I also used SF lemon Jello pudding (tbs), SF lemon Jello (1 tsp) and one Tbs of Torani SF lemon and 1 Tbs of SF Torani vanilla.

I like to tweak things. The SF jello powder and the Torani syrups are a must in my pantry. I flavor all kinds of things with them. A little goes a long way. I also did a glaze over the top with SF vanilla Syrup and lemon juice. You can also do fat free real whipped cream, SF jam or fruit on top of the cakes. I also use little ramekins for the batter instead of a measuring cup. It makes two little cakes that way and I eat half of one cake at a time.

Wow guys (Crystal, Ken) ... back off. Did you see the part in bold? Holy cow ...

Apparently that came out more abrasively than I intended... It wasn't meant to be offensive. I was just letting you know that I did know better than to try to race with weight loss. As far as the bold part... I am unfamiliar with the phrase toungue in cheek... ? Sorry if I offended you! :)

Ahhh..... now let's all have a group hug! Crystal, I'm still a little new to this, but I think you'll find most, if not all of the people here friendly and helpful. Pdxman is one of them and is very successful, so I know I sure like to hear what he has to say. Good luck with the weight loss and I know you'll do very well!

No problem. Perhaps I have been a little more sensitive. The phrase Tongue in Cheek is used to note a joke.

As you spend more time on the forum, you will read posts from people who write things like, "I have my sister's wedding in 4 months and I need to lose 100 pounds", or ,"I was sleeved 2 months ago and have only lost 50 pounds".

Some folks think it is a race. Perhaps they have heard about folks who opt for GBP have a window of opportunity for loss and think that applies to the sleeve as well. I don't know, but I do know a lot of folks here, including myself, either have or have had issues with food and may take things to the extreme. Just know my comments are based in love and concern. I want us all to achieve our goals and be healthy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
