Kiki Von Moonshine 53 Posted April 2, 2012 Constipation is no fun, and I'm not even post-op. Between my Iron pills, and lack of Water sometimes I get bricked. So... for post opers that are far out, is super colon cleanse, and citroma going to be my best friends for life?
Lissa 2,631 Posted April 2, 2012 Using laxatives can be habit-forming. Try adding in some Water and, unless it's prescribed by your doctor, ease up on the Iron pills. I drink Decaf coffee and that seems to work pretty well for this issue. Iron is horrible about stopping up the works, though. I don't take any more iron than is in my multi-Vitamin and, so far, I've been okay on my labs. Good luck!
Yorkie Fan 16 Posted April 2, 2012 You may also want to look into taking a magnesium supplement. I did some research on it and found that it helps to make the system work. So I talked to my surgeon and showed them my research. She said I could take a 500 mg supplement daily and make sure I drank all of my fluids. Pre and Post op, we don't get enough. It is found in dark leafy greens. I no longer have Constipation issues and the magnesium is not habit forming. Plus the added bonus is that it helps reduce my Migraines.< /p>
Lissa 2,631 Posted April 2, 2012 Ah, YorkieFan, you may have answered why I don't have Constipation issues. I eat dark leafy greens quite a bit. I always have loved collard greens and broccoli. While on Coumadin, my doc told me not to change the amount of them I eat, so I eat a little bit of them every day, just like I always have. That explains a lot! imanokie 3 Posted April 10, 2012 I was never told to use laxatives. I was prescribed stool softeners and told to add benefiber. This is all i need. Since starting solids, i havent had a problem and have basically stopped the benefiber and no longer use the stool softener.
