I Threw Cake In The Garbage!

Recommended Posts

I was a dessertoholic in my pre-sleeved life--waffles with Syrup for Breakfast, candy after lunch, dessert after dinner. My friends knew that my baked goods were great and looked forward to dessert at my house. There was always something sweet to eat in the fridge. Since my sleeve, I have ice cream here for guests (I don't eat it anymore as it makes me feel queasy post-sleeve) and I usually serve some kind of fruit after dinner. A friend came to dinner and brought a cake--a delicious strawberry-whipped cream cake--and I served her some and a tiny piece for me. I tried to make her take it home afterward, but she wouldn't, so I put it in the fridge. Before my sleeve that cake would have called to me everytime I was near the kitchen and would have been gone in two days. Today, a week later, I saw it on the back shelf and didn't know what it was for a moment...then I remembered. Pre-sleeve, I would have eaten it, stale or not. Today I was not tempted at all, just thought "Oh, I forgot about that" and tossed it in the garbage.

What have you tossed lately, pre-or post-sleeve, that you knew should leave the house?

Great post, as I am a big fan of throwing stuff away. It was a mistake to buy it in many cases, it just compounds the mistake to actually eat it!

I just threw away a bag of Sun chips. I thought I could eat just five or so, but that wasn't the case. And, they went down absolutely effortlessly.

I also dumped some pita chips. They didn't sit well in my stomach, but I could melt cheese on them and that made it easy to eat a bit too much. So into the trash with them.

Good for you! I went through my pantry today and threw out quite a few unhealthy things. Post-sleeve, I throw out anything unhealthy that doesn't taste absolutely amazing. I don't want to spend calories on crap anymore. I kept the amazing Peanut Butter chocolates with Himalayan pink salt, but a whole bunch of licorice, old Cadbury fingers, and cake went in the garbage because they didn't pass the "amazing" standard.

I guess all you guys should get some chickens. All food that gets thrown out at my house, goes to the chickens. They eat everything (except onions, orange peels and jello), then I don't feel like I'm wasting it

That's hilarious, I do love chickens and all birds! I think our HOA forbids them or maybe just roosters. Someday though, I will have some chickens.

I totally want to have some chickens one day! I also want to live in the city, though, so we'll see what the bylaws are like once we buy our permanent house (currently living in a condo).

I too post sleeve was a dessert, snack chocolate and complete sweet junkie. Things called out to me and I had to eat them..hungry or not, eating the rest or not, didn't matter. THAT is what I am NOW afraid of. I am only 5 days post sleeve and craving EVERYTHING bad for me. I am following my diet to a t and really haven't lost ANY weight since day of surgery. I lost 10lbs pre surgery. I am kind of freaking out in the head right now. Anyone offer some advice for me ? Please ? :(

It's perfectly normal to crave things while you are on the post-op liquid/mushy diet, because you are limited to a very small number of foods - and in the liquid phase, they don't really fill you up, either. The important thing is to remember that you only have to endure it for a finite amount of days and that if you cave in, you'll feel very sick - or worse, damage your sleeve. You'll be able to try anything you want soon enough.

I'm 12 days post op. I'm having some cravings but I was really wanting the pizza my husband was eating yesterday. I've been experiencing lots of issues like extra fullness from just liquids though. I know just one bite of that pizza or anything else other than liquid would do a number on me right now. It just wouldn't be worth it, just me. Good luck.

That is an awesome NSV. I did some pantry cleaning myself. You're doing awesome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
