I posted this in the pre-sleeve forum, but didn't get any responses. Hoping to get some in this forum.

I am having my surgery at Forest Park by Dr. Nicholson in a few days. From what I have seen here most people seem to have done generally well with the surgery by him.

I wanted to ask others who have gone through this, what they thought was good, bad, and ugly. How is the the day of the operation typically go?

Did you all get the nausea patch pre surgery? Do you see Dr. Nick after the surgery or his PA? Also, how is the follow-up?

What is there followup like if you have complications?

Also, what type of medications and any other things does one get when they leave the hospital post surgery?

Any response is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-Soon

I was at Forest Park as well. My surgeon is Dr. Kim, so I can't tell you anything about Dr. Nicholson, but I CAN tell you that F.P. is an AWESOME hospital! I was at the VERY end of the hallway, but that did not stop the constant flow of attention I got. They ALWAYS answer the call button within...seconds, and the rooms are huge, and the bathroom is huge, and it has a shower. I got the princess treatment there. I've heard Dr. Nick is great too!

Perfect timing !! :) I just walked out of Forest Park today after getting my VSG by Dr Nick. LOVE Forest Park, its like a Four Seasons Hotel, but not really :) The nurses were great, and the floor Doc's (General Practice's people) were super responsive and always there to answer any questions.

Did you all get the nausea patch pre surgery? <--- Yes, I put it behind my ear the night before my surgery.

Do you see Dr. Nick after the surgery or his PA? <-- No - General Practice Doc, and FP nurses.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have my first consultation with Dr. Nick this Friday I will be self pay. After surgery how sore are you and when are you able to really function. I teach and I also have a 3 month at home so is this something a can do in a 3 day time span or would it be best to wait until school is out (2 months) for the 1st of the summer. I'm just anxious to begin my new life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
