not planning on telling

Recommended Posts

Like most of you, I only told a few close friends. If someone lets the cat out of the bag, I won't be too upset, I just didn't want to hear any negativity or diet tips to try, and I feel like it's my body and I decide what's best for me.

(to stangers or when I just don't want to explain myself) That I am on a "restrictive diet" under medical supervision. I think that will be close enough to the truth!! Date: 6/25/04

I also told only a select few. My reasons were the same as the others posted. I did not want to be in a fish bowl or have everyone asking me how much weight I've lost each day. I dont feel that I need to explain myself to anyone. I definitely think it's an individual decision.

One thing I've learned since being banded in March is that I like to introduce myself to new foods when I'm at home, alone with my immediate family. Initially it wont be easy swallowing certain food (fruits and even some vegetables included) unless you cut them into extremely small portions. For this reason I skipped social gatherings until I knew how my body would handle those foods. This might be something you'll want to remember if you're not going to share with anyone outside of your husband.

This has been my experience on who to tell? I just had my lapband done May 25th and initially told just immediate family members and two close friends. I was reluctant to tell a sister who quite frankly, has been condescending relative to my weight gain over the past ten years. To my surprise.... my two close friends were more than supportive and did have the capacity and sensitivity to understand the weight struggle (they both have weight issues but are not considered morbidly obese as I am.) My point being, I for one, am glad I chose to take a leap of faith and tell them because I do have thier support and it helps a lot, with one caveat, do not tell people that you know are not supportive or opportunistic in trying to sabatoge your weight loss journey. Just my two cents.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
