I am 12 days post op and I am STARVING and it's not just head hunger. I can eat and 2-3 hours later I want to eat again. I've lost 21 pounds so far but the scale hasn't budged for the past 3 days. I'm freaking out....does this mean the sleeve is not gonna work for me?

I weighing is going to freak you out then stop weighing so often. If you are eating a small amount keep a food log to track your calories, Water intake and Protein intake. As long as you are getting all of the water and protein and not comsuming tons of calories you will continue to lose.

Some people can become obsessed with the scale so I suggest that you not weight everyday and maybe just once a week.

No it doesn't. Are you weighing everyday? You should only weigh once a week. Also are you taking your antacid meds like prevacid. Acid in the stomach can make you feel hungry even when you are NOT having heartburn. You lost 21lbs already! That is great. Do not panic and relax everything will work.

Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only one! I am also 12 days post-op and want to eat anything and everything! I know there must be some head hunger, afterall I am a food addict. ;) Seriously though, I feel like Im starving! Are you still on Clear Liquids? I am for another 2 weeks.. I dont know what Im going to do. I've resorted to chewing up food and spitting it out. :/

If you're not taking a PPI/antacid, I would recommend starting one - the increased acid reflux can mimic hunger. Keep in mind, too, that since you're just likely on liquids (or maybe starting purees) most of what you're taking in goes right through you.

Once you start on solids, you'll be amazed at how quickly you get full. Just keep hanging in there, the first couple months are the roughest. I agree that you should avoid the scale daily (although I really didn't!) and just weigh once a week, in the morning, at the same time . . . that's the best barometer for your loss.

I am around the same stage as you are and I know how you feel about the eating. I don't really get hungry, but make sure to eat. When I eat though, I don't really get full. Tonight I ate about two tablespoons of ricotta with some sauce and didn't feel any fullness after. Made me a bit nervous. :/

As for Antacids, have any non-prescription ones worked well for you, Indymom? I don't have a PCP per se and would have to go to the clinic at my University. Pain to do so.

For antacids, I use OTC Prevacid, and I take a TUMS morning and night. No acid issues. I also have the hungry monster though. It was horrible on clears, but now that i am on fulls, it is better. I can start with mushies on Thursday and I think then I will finally start to feel the fullness feeling I think we are missing. But yeah, Right now i feel like I'm pouring my nutrition into an abyss that never reaches my stomach.

Yes I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but who can resist? It's the first time in FOREVER that I've lost any weight so I was jumping out of bed every morning to see the scale show a loss. I am taking everyone's advice and weening myself from the scale.< /p>

I came home from the hospital on full liquids: broths/soups, shakes, sf puddings Jello, and popsicles, diluted juice, and Water. I have just started trying to incorporate soft foods into my diet. I've tried some tuna salad, eggs with a sprinkle of cheese, some finely ground beef with cheese reduced fat sour cream and salsa. I also had some cheese and two wheat thins. I have also been working out since the second day being home. I'm hoping my body is trying to adjust to the change in calories and that the loss will kick back soon. I do think once I get acclimated to "eating real food" that I will feel fuller because I noticed some fullness today. So...I'll try and relax and not freak out and let "Big Red" do her thing. Thanks for the responses...

O yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm taking 20 mg of Prilosec daily but I may actually increase my dose b/c I do A LOT of burping when I eat.

My nut stated that our bodies mistakes thirst for hunger a lot. So try drinking before you eat and see if that works.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
