Is It Cheating? (That Actually Counts)

So if you are on a liquid diet, can you chew food and spit it out before you swallow it? This way nothing goes down the hatch, but you still get to taste real food. I am getting desperate lol

Lol yes thats cheating... Plus you're only tempting yourself to swallow so I would avoid it at all cost.. Wait till u get to soft liquids then u can actually blend your food to liquid or purée it

SF popsicles. Chewing and spitting can lead to an eating disorder. Dont' do it!

There is an eating disorder that involves chewing and spitting it out. I saw an episode of Intervention where a girl was doing this. It is gross to see.

My surgery was before Christmas, so when I made Christmas Cookies for my husband, I did chew and spit but only to ensure that the cookie dough was good. It wasn't very satisfying and it wasn't even very helpful in gauging the taste.

Try to deal with the liquid diet. It isn't forever. You can do this!

I know of some gals who have this eating disorder. Don't start it, it is not worth the risk.

I am pre-op and having surgery tomorrow. I guess I thought I was being creative and inventive lol I didnt realize that it is an eating disorder. Living with 2 young kids and a husband eating Chinese food was just killing me tonight. I got through it. Thank you for the feedback and your kind words of encouragement =)

An occassional mouthful and then spitting is not going to hurt you. Of course, as with anything, keep it in moderation. I went through a period during the puree stage where all I wanted was to feel texture and some great tasting food. I chewed and spit every now and then to get the desire out of my system. It is not cheating....it's just the emotional desire that you have been use to up until now. You will be fine and this stage will be over soon. Just hang in there and all will be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
