hi all

i am having my right knee replacement 4/26/12 - i'm getting very anxious, nervous. It's just one more surgery I will have. Like WLS i'm not afraid of the actual surgery, "dying" on the table, or anything. all that good stuff. I also know i will physically be better with knee replacement and helping with helping with my weight.

What alway scares/makes me nervous etc. - is the after effect of a surgery the work involved healing, taking care of myself properly, With the WLS every thing went fine and i've lost 47+ lbs with eating correct portions and correct food.etc. BTW everything is going fine, just as I hoped. DOS 12/15/11.

But...i had the left knee replaced about 5 years ago, and that was terrible. After i came too i hurt so much, and all the PT hurt and was so hard. I will go to PT rehab (birchwood I think) but its hard

Now I'll have the right knee replaced - since i've gone through this before, it might go easier since i know what to expect or not...thanx for listening to me vent. i'm sure i'll be back with same subject. thanx board for listening to me and just being "you"

best of luck to me

kathy

Hi Kathy, Since you are a forum veteran, I'd like to suggest you go to www.bonesmart.org to get better acquainted with others going through knee replacements. I have had four replacements in total and Bonesmart has been an excellent resource for me. You are right that knee replacements are not the easiest thing to go through and it really takes a full year to recover from.

I wish you well with both your continued weight loss and your upcoming replacement. Oh and by the way, it seems common that most have one difficult knee replacement and one easy one. Hopefully you got the difficult one over with first. ^_^

hi karen

thank you very much for sending me to BoneSmart. It is definately a great forum. Will get involved with it. Thanx again.

guess i was looking for a little sympathy - but you having 4 knee replacements, and many others having had many similar othopedic surgeries, i now think i was feeling a bit too sorry for myself. At least i have 2 knees to deal with - some people don't have any.

thanx for putting things back into perspective

kathy

You have every right to feel sorry for yourself! No one wants to go through ANY type of surgery and knees are definitely not a fun surgery to have. I hope you enjoy Bonesmart and maybe I will see you over there. I'm an advisor on that forum but have been a bit absent lately preparing for wls.

Actually, I have had two knee replacements, a hip replacement and a year later, a revision of that same hip. I will be having an ankle replacement 6 months to a year after my sleeve which will be in May. I've got the surgeries lined up, unfortunately.

You are doing great with the weight loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
