I am 36 and i am concerned about sagging and loose skin. Is anyone my age that has already had the surgery? What has been your experience about the surgery after fast weight loss?

I think most people will agree that skin sagging is a very individual thing.

I am 32, I've lost 87lb, and my abdomen is pretty wrecked. HOWEVER I'm from Irish stock, and have typical celtic skin, which marks and scars badly, I have always had major stretch marks, and a c-section in 04 was pretty much the final nail in the coffin.

All that being said, I'd personally rather have the skin than the fat, and given good underwear nobody knows what is hiding beneath my clothes, but me, and I'd do this surgery again in a heartbeat, I have no regrets from it at all.

Good luck in your decision x

I'm treating my skin like I did when I was pregnant -- lots of cocoa butter on the abdomen area and hoping it will help my skin go back. I'm a lot older than you -- 58 -- but hopefully I still have a little elasticity. I agree with Cludgie that I'd rather have the skin than the fat. I feel so much better already, there's no comparison.

I think staying properly hydrated, making sure you get in your oils in some form and exercising helps.

I'm doing an hour of yoga twice a week, walking or bike riding a couple of days a week and just started strength training. My goal is to do one of those things every day.

Good luck!!

Carol

I have very little to no saggy skin. I have lost 80+ pounds. I am almost 29. I have a few dimples on my stomach-- no "loose skin" and the dimples are improving and it is getting better every week. There is hope!

I'm 42 and have saggy skin in my arms- VERY BAD, legs (inner and outer thips) and my tummy (NOT so bad yet)- I lost about 90lbs on my lap band, gained some back and have since lost over 60lbs with my sleeve- I knew it was going to get worse- In my case becasue I already had saggy skin it will require surgery- no working out will ever be enough to tone it all- Many people however if they are agressive in their work outs can get away with minimal to no surgery for skin issues. But in my personal opinion- any weight loss over 50lbs after a certain age will result in some saggy skin- it's the law of gravity as well.. lol

I have a pretty saggy belly button -- but then I've always had one since my pregnancy twenty years ago. I knew I didn't need a Tummy Tuck because it really is not that bad -- but I wondered if there was any other kind of surgery that would work.

Ended up reading about panniculectomies this morning. This is an easier surgery because there is no muscle repair and might be covered by insurance. Like I said, mine is not that bad but I might be able to convince some kind surgeon that it's a health risk of some kind.

Also, though -- when I was reading about this it said that you can't do it until you've achieved a stable weight for a full year. Part of the reason for this is that that's about as long as you'd have to wait to see whether most of the problem has resolved itself on its own. I've read a number of posts from people who had their surgeries or lost a lot of weight ten or fifteen years ago -- and most of them say that if you wait long enough and just stay in shape and don't regain; you'll snap back. Slowly, but you will.

SOME insurances will cover skin removal, if you go to the doc for a rash 3 times in a year. I guess if the skin folds rub you wrong. Because you can get a yeast infection from the wetness which is health related I guess.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
