Bowel Movements After Surgery.

Recommended Posts

I am assuming since post opp we will eat very little compared to before, that bowel movements will change as well. Did anyone suffer from Constipation?

I did and I started to put a scoop of benefiber in my morning Protein Shake. This took care of the problem. I still have a Protein shake for Breakfast everyday and add the benefiber. I am not a little over 3 months out. This keeps me regular, gives me a meal with protein and also not a lot of calories. This give me more to have during the day.

I use one capful of Miralax everyday in my milk or cranberry juice. This also is a huge problem for me.

My surgeon has me take Milk of Magnesia, I am only 2 days postop. With the pain meds and decreased intake, you will probably need a little something to help, at least for a while.

I am on week two and have not had Constipation. I did not have a bm for a week or so, but no discomfort or anything. I just assumed it was from lack of solids and my body would go when it was ready. When I started full liquids I had a normal bm. I guess I just needed more solids in my diet.

So far no diarrhea or constipation for me. Fingers crossed!

I didn't at first but I'm almost a month out and it's getting worse. It's probably time for me to add some Fiber to a shake or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
