Anyone Looking For A Great Christian Doctor Or Undecided For Any Reason?

Recommended Posts

I am day 3 post op and doing great at home, off all pain meds and getting in all my Protein and walking-totally excited! I am new to this group and when I got home from the hospital I really felt compelled to share my patient /doctor story in case there was anyone who was still undecided or still looking for the right doctor. I am a Christian. My faith was not anything that came up or was discussed in my two pre op appointments between me and the doctor.

I was excited but admittedly, also a little nervous the morning of my surgery. The power had gone out and my surgery was being delayed until the hospital could figure out why the city of Dallas was in blackout in that area. I almost changed my mind right then and there and can definitely say I had more than a few nerves as I had 2 additional hours waiting in the lobby in the dark until my turn. Too much time to sit and think about it on an empty stomach and kind of a restless night! Anyway, long story getting shorter ;-), lights came on and they whisked me away to weigh me and put me in my pre op gown.

Less than 5 minutes before procedure was supposed to start, Doctor Davidson walked in, sat down beside my bed and asked if it would be alright for us to pray together before the surgery. I said I would love to. He took my hand in both of his and thanked God for so many blessings we see in our daily lives and most importantly for sacrificing Himself on the cross to save us. He asked God for His guidance as he performed the procedure and we prayed for comfort and peace for my husband and children awaiting with hope of a speedy recovery. I was for the very first time at complete peace with my decision to have this surgery. Just knowing that my doctor had such a genuine and real relationship with the Lord and somehow knew what a big decision this is for each of us.

Anesthesia came back right after and not a jitter in sight. One of the anesthesiologists commented that Dr. Davidson patients are always so relaxed and always have a smile even before "we get here" because he is the only doctor that prays with his patients before every procedure. If you are looking for a good Christian doc, he is the one for you!

His front office girl had also asked me the week prior when my surgery date was on my way out of my pre op visit. She said "I just jotted you down in my prayer book and will wake up early to pray again that morning for you." I thanked her for her support and then she asked if I would also pray for her when her surgery date came up the following month. I love this doctor and his strong conviction in the power of prayer. It just seems as if he has surrounded himself with so many believers and does not hesitate to share his personal faith-I LOVE this doctor! I can truly say I have never felt such comfort swell over me at one time! He also explains how the human body works in the pre op classes as "how God made us in His infinite knowledge" etc. If you are seeking comfort in any way and just need the reassurance, this guy (and his office staff) is awesome! He is head of Bariatrics at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, the Bariatric Surgery Center with long time excellence rating and tons of vsg experience.

That is so awesome to hear. Especially in today's times when people are afraid to let anyone know their beliefs in business. Hope for a speedy recovery.

You were so blessed to have a Christian doctor, lighteningbug! I can't think of anything more comforting than having a surgeon that prays about the surgery before taking your life in his hands. That's wonderful! Unfortunately, I don't get to pick my surgeon. Maybe I should start praying now for a good one like yours...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
