I'm in the same boat and have a lot of questions along the same lines. I don't drink as much as I did - in say college - but enjoy having a drink every now and then. I know it is empty calories and I will have to work hard as far as exercising after I drink but other than that, will it cause a problem with my band? Please advise!!!

Hi, I have been drinking white wines and have not had a problem. I drank some bacardi and pink lemonade crystal light too (yummy on a hot day) I know we are supposed to stay away from carbination...streches the pouch. I have lost 37 pounds in 6 weeks so I dont think its hindered my weight loss.

Plus we need to have some fun still right?? ;)

Any Fluid will pass the band, and will not keep you full. And if you could get drunk before, you will still be able to get drunk post op.

There is nothing wrong with having a few drinks occassionally...however, don't forget that while under the influence of alcohol our better judgement is quite distorted.......for me it means that I do not have the control I need when it comes to making the right choice when eating....watch out for this! Not only could the calories from the alcohol get you, but the bad food choices as well.

Be careful of quantities, too. I was pissed after downing one McEwans the other night, which I drank very slowly by the way. I think the small quantities I've been eating might have made me more sensitive to the alcohol, I don't know. It was a good lesson for me.

I would also take heed of what Carol said about judgement being affected. I would hate to be eating at the same time and not chew well enough and ruin my night through a big PB.

I love this topic everytime it comes around!! No I am not a drunk but I am a chick that loves hanging with her hubby and friends and having a good time!! As far as what to drink...anything you want but careful of the frozen sugary drinks that have tons of calories!!! I usually have a gin and tonic and sip it (let the bubbles go down), a dirty martini w/olives, a bloody mary or my newest concoction....Crystal Light Lemonade and Vodka or Crystal Light Punch with Jack Daniels...if you are going to someone's house make either of these drinks in the bottles they come in and throw them in the freezer a couple of hours before you go out to get them nice and cold. I usually mix 2 of the singles of Crystal Light to one 16oz. bottle of Water. Drink the water down to right above the label and then fill the rest with the liquor. It is really good and if you think about it....you are getting in your water and having a damn good time to boot! :Banane40: Don't worry about the reception at the wedding....have a drink and have a good time and Kate27....make the Crystal Light drinks and throw them in a cooler and you are set for tailgating girl! Have a great time and be carefull!!! And watch out for those after drinking breakfasts!!! Have a couple eggs and maybe a slice of bacon but don't try to eat that stack of pancakes in a drunken state of mind.....not good!!!! I usually do some eggs and grits and coffee and I am fine!

Party on girls!!!!! :rose:  :cocktail: :P :P :Banane40: :Banane59: :)

That's a great idea about the Crystal Light!! Thanks! I'm definitly doing that! A friend of mine had gastric bypass and she does pretty well with the Bacardi and diets....especially at the bar. The diet fountain soda isn't as coarbonated as a can of pop and bacardi is pretty low in cals (in comparison).

Hi again,

Also I did notice that while "relaxing" and getting a little looped, I did start to feel a little sorry for myself....we were camping and I had helped cook the yummy steak, baked potato, salads ect. and it did seems harder for me to control the eating.

I actually chewed up a piece of steak, my husband saw me so I ran over and spit it in the fire haha. Wasnt that funny at the time though. I was still in mushy only stage. It sucked passing up the smores too.

But, I was proud in the morning for sticking to it!! Im actually going to start "regular" food tomarrow!!! YAY!!

ALSO me and my love and friends are going to see the red hot chili peppers on Saturday YAY!!!!! I think I will still to some white wine at the concert.

I'm so glad to hear this from everyone. Not that I want to go drink all the time, I just enjoy having some beers after work, on a Saturday night or what have you. How soon after the surgery did people start drinking? I'm 2 weeks post-op and have no plans of sucking down some cold ones yet, but maybe after I start regular foods which is in a few weeks! This is the best! Party on bandsters!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
