Surgery? Overall Summary. Yes Or No?

Recommended Posts

For the most part, i hear people that have had this surgery do not regret it. Based on your personal experience, and taking into consideration post op recovery..would u do it again? Is it worth it?

I would do it again 1000000000 times!!! Best decision I have made for myself EVER! For the first time in my LIFE, I LOVE being me! Each day it's like there is some new miracle. Today it was the amount of space between my belly and the steering wheel. Tomorrow it will be that I can go out to eat with my sister and be happy just talking to her instead of scarfing down food. Next week it'll be buying size 12s... It's amazing. Pray- you'll get the answer.

I would do it again in a heartbeat--best money I've ever spent, and I spent $8000 at the Biggest Loser Ranch in Utah the year before I got my sleeve--I lost 13 lbs...

Just wish it had been available 20 years ago.

would do it again in a heartbeat! There is some discomfort involved post op BUT the rewards are amazing. Make sure you do the research and really understand what is going to be involved. You have to be mentally ready as well as physically. It really is a life change.

Would do it again in a minute! Never had any pain or nausea. Have lost 6 inches in my waist and 5 inches in my hips. Have gone from a size 18 pants to a 10. I am a little over 15 weeks out and have never felt better. I just said to my husband that this is the first time in my life I have probably chewed my food! I only had 55 lbs. to lose but it was all in my abdomen and had to go. Love my sleeve!

YES. Down to normal body weight for the first time in over 25 years. No way would that have happened without this tool. I'd do it again tomorrow if I needed to.

ABsolutely ! I started at 198 and have lost 30 pounds. I had been overweight for about 20 years (I am 62) so I could remember how it was to be a normal weight for my height. I did it more for health reason but have found that the benefits of looking and feeling better are so worth it. My husband had it and has lost 100 pounds. It has completely changed his life. Good luck on your decision.

Yes definitely would do it again even after my complication and second surgery....

NSV today actually bought a size 12 jeans...I swear the tag must be wrong. I started at sixe 24 when I started my pre-op diet last Octoer. I have not worn a size 12 (if it is true) in over 25 years......

My loss has really slowed down, but that is okay for now. I am hoping my hair loss will slow down too.

:) smiles everyone

I'd do it again tomorrow and twice the day after that!! I just spent some time with a girl who was pre-op, sharing my journey. Even I was surprised by how positive I am about this surgery. It is LIFE CHANGING in so many ways!!

For the first few doc visits post-op I kept wondering if I should just kiss my surgeon's feet. That is how strongly I feel that he gave me my life back!

I love to read posts like this! So encouraging. I am scheduled for three weeks or so from today. Thanks for the good news. I am 45 and have been losing and gaining the same weight for 6-7 years, I need help! I threw 4 thousand at Optifast and gained it back (plus 20) within a year. My greatest concern has been the psychological affects. However, I am having a lot of those with the extra weight. Thanks to all of you that responded. I have 85 to lose. I am especially concerned about the issue of feeding my large family of 5 kiddos. Need to stay in the kitchen and grocery shop for them, can't really limit the pantry all that much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
