I have had a rough time healing, but at a little over 3 weeks I am starting to feel better.

I also have a LOT of fatigue.. My Dr has said that it is because I need more Protein, after we start adding "real" Protein to our diets we will have more energy.

3 days post op I was still in so much pain I could not do ANYTHING... it gets better. :)

Hi Stephanie,

I too am going to have surgery in St. Louis in a few months. If you don't mind me asking, who was your surgeon? I'm curious because i'm scared to death! LOL I would love to hear your story. Which hospital did you go to? I've been looking for St. Louis Sleevers on the forum but you guys are far and few between. Any info you can give me I would greatly appreciate. :)

Smileygirl, I hope you feel better soon. I have not yet had my surgery and pray that I don't have a bad recovery. I hate you are having such a hard time.

At 3 days post op I posted a thread similar to yours. I was feeling so much regret and "what was I thinking?" It does get better!!!! Those first 3 days are the absolute worst (or were for me). Things start to get better. Are you taking something for acid (omeprazole or similar)? Using ice packs on my belly helped me. Sip sip sip. Do you have anything for nausea to help with the dry heaves? You could always call you on call doc for suggestions too!

Keep coming here to this board-the support from the other members is amazing. They have helped me through that 3 day regret and mourning period!!!

Feel better, Jenn

Remember that you've had a pretty major surgery! You'll be weak for a while. I'm eight weeks post-op and I feel great! I can get my liquids and Protein in now even though it was hard at first...everything is gradual, just relax into it and take good care of yourself. The first four days were really hard for me, too, and I had tons of regret in those days, but now I'm SO glad I had the surgery! It takes time for our head to catch up with our new sleeve, so don't despair. It's going to be great!! Take care!!

Thank you all for your thoughts and input. The doctor gave me a suppository for nausea and it worked like a charm. Last night I felt like I hit a milestone with my sleeping. I was able to prop myself up on the sides so that I could rotate a little bit while sleeping. I am not use to sleeping on my back for the entire night so my back has been killing me. I was finally able to get some rest. The only big issue now is make sure I drink, I have no desire to drink anything, but know if I don't I will have to go to ER for IV Therapy. Any suggestions for Protein Shakes that taste good. Should I be drinking Protein shakes 4 days out.

Smiley, that is how I slept for the first week.. Propped on my side with my body pillow tucked under my belly and ice pack strategically placed :) It helped a lot. I am a side sleeper and that was the most comfortable I could get. Have Water with you always and just drink, even if you don't want to... I was on the dehydrated side the first couple of days home *my veins were not visable like usual and my urine was dark, but it did start getting better after that... Try some popsicles if you can't drink-you can get a lot of Fluid in that way too!!! SF tropicals are really good!!!

Hang in there, it does get better!! jenn

I was sleeved 3/27.

Last night was my first night sleeping in my own bed. I had been sleeping in recliner. It was a little uncomfortable I needed 4 pillows lol but it was nice to be in my own bed & next my hubby.

I was put on Protein shakes in hospital day after surgery. I feel sick if I don't keep some kind of something in my stomach.

Smiley, I am having the same feelings. I was sleeved last Wednesday and got home from the hospital yesterday. I'm exhausted and miserable. I am going to try to go walking this afternoon but for now I spend a lot of time in my bed. I am a side sleeper too but it's so hard to sleep with my swollen tummy protruding out. So I toss and turn a LOT!

We will get through this. I know I have had surgeries in the past (kidney stone removal, etc) and I cry after every surgery wishing I hadn't followed through with it.

I can't wait to see how both of us feel in a few weeks.

Cynthia

I drink Muscle Milk Light. It tastes good and is low calorie.... it is also about the only one I can handle without gagging.

((Hugs)) The first month was horrible for me. I threw up every day, the shakes were disgusting, I was hungry & sore & miserable. I cried, I knew I'd made the biggest mistake of my life & I was mourning the loss of my friend - food.

Fast forward 9 weeks post op today, down 47 lbs, adjusting fine to eating for my sleeve, pretty much over food as a pleasure & thrilled with my decision!!!!

Hang in there....it seems impossible now, but it WILL get better! Try muscle milk light - vanilla latte is delish & the rtd is a thinner consistency than most shakes - try that or premier Protein rtd. You can do this!!

Sorry you ladies are struggling with your surgery.

I got my surgery on Tuesday. I got sent home from the hospital early because I was doing laps around the nurses desk. I they also didn't keep me on liquids very long, they put me on puréeds day 2.

Things that I found help a lot:

walking.

Drinking fluids very very slowly in tiny sips, otherwise it hurts my stomach when it goes down.

And when I'm not walking I'm sleeping.

I don't need my pain meds at all anymore.

I really think its more mind over matter. Remember why you took this journey to begin with. Slipping on those size 14 jeans and not having the pants marks on your waist when you take them off.

Happy journey!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
