What Did I Just Throw Up?

Recommended Posts

Ok, maybe this is tmi but I am really concerned and hope you can help. This morning I woke up with the sudden urge to throw up. I got out of bed and ran to the restroom. I threw up what looked like bits of raisins. Small and black in color. Last night I had some Water before bed and dinner I had some plain yogurt. I had nothing with color. I feel okay now, but it was ugly and kind of scary. Any thoughts??? BTW... I'm six weeks post op if that helps.

It sounds dark and grainy but it could just be the way it shows in my mind. It may be blood. I would just call the doc and run it by them for peace of mind.

Blood??? But yes dark and grainy describes it. But this late out? Did I do something? My docs office is closed now and won't be open till Monday? But I guess I'll see if it happens again and I'll leave a message with his answering service. I just hope that was the first and last time.

Do they not have an after hours number? I would try to get a hold of someone tonight!

Not to try to scare you but you should seek to se a doctor today! Any fever, chills or anything out of the ordinary aside from the "raisins"?

There should always be a doctor on call. It may not be your surgeon but someone. I think you should call for sure. Vomiting that color is a concern with or without a sleeve. Hope it turns out to be nothing, but you can't be too careful.

ok, so it was old blood. Possibly the scabbing from the inside of my tummy from the incision. That was scary. Thanks all for the concern. I did call and describe what it was and this is what i was told. But was also told if it happened again to call and it hasnt.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
