Is it true that after you have the sleeve, you don't even crave food anymore? I swear during my consult that my dr said that the sleeve process removes the portion of the stomach that tells your brain you're hungry, so you have to force yourself to eat???

For some people, YES!! However it is very rarely permanent. Our stomachs produce a hormone called ghrelin, that is the "hunger" hormone. That part of the stomach is removed so many people don't get hungry or crave food anymore. However, ghrelin is also produced, in smaller quantities, in the pancreas I believe so over time our body compensates and you get that back.

I am 6 months out. At the beginning I had to force myself to eat, but now I do get hungry. Though not nearly to the extreme that I used to feel. Its more like I read my body more and know when I need to eat. Like if I start to get a headache i'll eat and feel better. I also have my appetite back, but its nice that I feel satiated after a few bites.

This was one of the reasons I chose this surgery. Even if it was only a chance of it happening, I really hoped that it would. I was on phentermine for a couple months and for the first month I had that same "oh shoot, I need to eat" feeling and I loved it. It finally felt like I wasn't tied to food, and the surgery gave me that as well. It helped me break the need to eat. So now I really am only eating when I need to. Yes, I still enjoy an occasional treat, but for the most part food is just energy now. Once I got past the head hunger and using food as an emotional crutch, but honestly that didn't take long for me :)

I'm scheduled for the sleeve on April 10th. My bmi is only 28 but I'm approved in Mexico because I got the band there, which is not working n makes it very painful to eat. My fear is that because my BMI is so low that I will lose too much weight and become frail and sickly. Is there anyone out there whose BMI was similar to mine they can give me your results and how you doing

Also, I'm scheduled for the sleeve on April 12th, and going to Vegas on June 5th. Will I be able to drink beer by then?

I'm going to Vegas on July 16th, four months after my sleeve. But as far as I've heard, beer, soda and all carbonated drinks are pretty much off-limits forever. My sleeved friend says that he drinks soda from time to time, but it's uncomfortable and would've advise it. Maybe we'll have to stick to liquor.

Remo, is that an AJ jersey? If so, he's the man! Go Texans! I hear you can have beer and soda if you can stomach is but its gonna stretch your stomach out. Looks like I'll sample beer and turn into a liquor man. Time to brush up on that side of things!

I second what EMily said above, the apptitite is reduced but eventually you DO get hungry, but I don't nearly get as completely starved like I used to. What many of us fight is head hunger, we are so used to eating and have such poor eating habits it's hard to break them.

Yeah, I know that will be my issue. Smelling things and having to have a taste. Ball games will be tough.

Yeah boy! Moved here almost seven years ago. Chiefs fan first, Texans second, but still...excited about this season also! AJ's a BEAST! Hopefully Schaub will be back to normal!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
