My doc also recommended blending a banana in with Protein Shake. I say go for it.

Amen! At this point i will eat anything that will not eat me first. I know that banana's have a high sugar content but they are the only thing keeping me alive right now. I am only allowed 800 calories a day so by the time i drink 3 Protein drinks and a banana I am at my limit. I use the Premier High Protein Drinks and I buy them at Sam's, 12 for $16.99 and they have 30 grams of Protein. I started out with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and made them myself but having to be at work early in the morning and staying late at night it is easier to by them already made up. They actually taste good as well.

In the blenderized phase I was told I could put half a banana in my shake. Seems like the answers here are all over the chart. I'd stick to your drs. Response though. I know we are all diff.

I agree, we are all different and what works for one may not work for someone else.

If it grows from the ground or has a face, eat it. Isn't that what Jilian Michaels says all the time? Bananas are healthy good carbs. If you are eating processed/packaged foods as your carbs then you should probably worry a lot more.

It seems just about all of us are getting different advise from our nutritionists. My niece is a nutritionist and she is obsessed with what she believes to be the correct way to eat and she trys to argue with me over the advise I've been given. I kind of imagine most of them are stuck in their way of thinking/training too.

What I've learned in the past 5 mths?.....I firmly believe in making smart choices for myself and what makes me feel good. I listen to my nutritionist...and fit the info in and see how it goes for me. But I decide. I feel great when I eat Protein, veggies and fruit and I feel crappy when I eat processed, packaged foods. So....a banana, for me, is a wise choice....and I eat a whole small one as a snack : )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
