Spicy Food - I Can't Stop

Recommended Posts

I've always loved a little kick to my eats, but about a year post-op it hit me that I ONLY desire to eat foods which are spicy. Mexican, Thai food, and everything in between! Last time I had pizza it was pepperoni with jalapenos, I then showed it in red peppers, then even put Sriracha on it!

Any one else feel an affinity for spicy food post-op? I wonder why this is.. (definitely not pregnant)

i have been craving spicy food since surgery. Not spicy hot food, just food with a lot of flavor. i love Mexican now, and before i could hardly stomach it. Slim Jims in all different flavors too. I think we taste food better now, and just like the flavors more?

Ick! Maybe rethink the SlimJims? I seem to recall that they are molded, pressed and formed grease ... and spice of course. I shouldn't talk because I have a dry salami habit.

Absolutely the opposite with me!! I can't handle spicy foods AT ALL... it kinda sucks lol. I was never a big spicy-hot food fan, but I could tolerate medium-hot wings... now I have to go mild and it has to be very light :( I'm glad you can still enjoy your favorite food!

I am pre-op and it was good to read that I might be able to eat spicy one day again. I do like spicy food and thought it was one of the things I had to give up with the sleeve so glad to hear that it might be in my future.

Yes I'm glad i have found people the same. I'm 26 days post op and all I want is spice currys hot things and it agrees with me better than most. So glad I don't have intolerance x

I can't for the life of me eat anything that doesn't have spice to it. I'm a spicy food lover since childhood. I was very worried that I won't be able to eat spice post sleeve (GERD) but thank goodness I eat spice the way I used to with no issues.

If my food isn't spicy, I'm not eating it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
