Horseback Riding After Surgery--How Soon After?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Spring, Summer and late Fall I am actively riding my horse (trail riding, some trotting and loping, some cattle work--but mostly trail), but I am wondering those of you that ride how soon your were able to ride, how many hours and saddle lifting, etc...your overall experience. I am not sure how I am going to get away without riding with friends for a month or more (ONLY my husband knows)...but I can blame it on other activities going on for maybe several weeks. Anyhow, please share your experience. Thanks.

This is a pretty unique situation - I'd as your Dr.

I did ask a few doctors and they said about three weeks, however, none of them ride and may not realize all that is involved, like lifting the saddle (mine is light though) and the "core" is involved in riding... and the trotting or loping I am not sure how that will feel. So, I am hoping to hear from those that have experienced it first hand, because for some reason I am doubtful that three weeks it will be comfortable...but I could be wrong (that would be great if sooner than later). I even asked one doctor "If" I get bucked off will that injure my stomach...he said no. I have yet to discuss with current chosen doctor for surgery and I will ask before or after surgery.

Same time period as you're cleared for weightlifting and exercise...

I waited until I felt I had lost enough weight not to harm the horse. For me, that was about 1 year after I lost 150 lbs. Now i'm back in the saddle and bouncing all over the place once again. . . good luck.

I was cleared for "anything" after 3 weeks but I still didn't lift much until about 6 months....like my saddle. Have hubby toss the saddle up for you the next couple of months maybe and have fun!

Tippy2us, Thanks for your input...oh, gosh I hope it is not six months to put my saddle on my horse! I am hoping within 5 weeks (I have a fairly light weight custom western saddle)...I guess I will find out!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
