hey cindy!

25 of what i lost was in the 2 months pre-op so i have lost 75 since banding in august 2003.

that is 36 weeks at 2.08 pounds a week (thats the average anyway) i went 7 months with little to no restriction

i follow the Atkins diet since getting restriction (dr approved) i eat off this list http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html NOTICE it says you can have UP TO 3 CUPS of VEGGIES a day!!

today i had

drink 32 oz Water 6:30 am - 9:30 am

Breakfast @ 9:30- 1 scrambled egg with cheese

drink 32 oz Water 10:30 am - 2:00 pm

lunch 1/3 chicken breast 1/3 cup low carb mac and cheese (i only eat the low carb Pasta once a week sometimes twice)

drink 32 oz water 3:00-6:00 pm

dinner- (i'll do lastnights dinner) 3 oz nys steak 1/3 cup sauteed zuchinni, red peppers with a cilantro sauce

i can eat 1/2 - 3/4 cup of any food, any meat (chicken breast boneless skinnless, nys steak, pork chop, ribs etc). salads i can eat 1 cup or because they are mostly water they break down easy.

i still dont think i am as tight as some others (i can eat solid food for breakfast) but i like to eat and couldnt drink protien shakes unless i had to. i have 3.4 cc's in my band and i think its pretty sweet to me! i still have some room for adjusting but i dont plan on having one ANY time soon! like i said i like being able to eat!

trust me your fill not taking doesnt sound weird! like i said i went 7 months without restriction (10++++ fills) and got filled up to 4.2 cc's! give it a chance but if its not giving you restriction CALL THEM BACK!!!

exercise- i dont have a normal schedule for that. i do have a REALLY manicured yard this year though. i just keep myself busy with projects! i swim now that its summer again, i take my dogs for walks and hikes, do yardwork, rearrange the house, clean out the garage, had a yardsale etc.

Hi Shelly and Cindy!

Shelly---like you, I am following an adkins based eating plan. I was a total skeptic about the adkins---until I did it for my pre-op diet. WOW---I was a total carb adict before I did that and now that I eat my Protein first, veggies next, I almost never eat the potato, rice, Pasta, etc. I used to eat the carb first and then the rest and was hungry again after a short period of time. I can't believe the difference this has made in my feelings of hunger and cravings! I feel full longer and most days do not crave the sugar.

So Cindy--try it, and I hope you find success with this too!

-30, no fills

Greta

hey greta!

i too am loving how the carb cravings are GONE!!! and the hunger. i attribute most of the non hunger to the band because i did Atkins pre-op and would still eat volume.

i just really like the results. my dr said the atkins is great to do short term but not as a lifestyle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
