How did everyone feel on their plane ride home? I live in Florida so its like an 8 hour flight and im concerned about being sick or uncomfortable for soooo long! I was also thinking of going business for the bigger seats and additional leg room! Let me hear your experiences and suggestions, thanks.

I live in Texas, and flew economy. I booked an isle seat, and wore compression stockings/socks, that helped more than anything. You can grab some at your local pharmacy. Oh, I also booked my seat in the very back of the plane, by the bathrooms, in case I got sick. When I booked my flight, I requested wheelchair assistance to and from all gates.....best decision ever. Good luck :-)

Last time I flew the security checked my babies bottles, and all my shampoos! Make sure you alot enogh time if you are held up in security due to the broth! I'm considering doing what you are with the baggy! My lay over is in Atlanta and I don't recall seeing broth in any of the restaurants so I'm concerned and feel I may need to bring my own. Can anyone else advise how they did this. I live in jax so it's only a 3.5 hr flight with one stop!

I had a long trip back too. I made sure to wiggle and flex my leg muscles as much as possible, and the extra room in business would certainly have been nice, but it really was fine. Just a very long day!

About broth ... don't worry too much about it, you really won't be hungry. I had a glass of apple juice over ice and then ice Water in the plane, and that was good.

Good luck!

Swanson makes broth packs where you can just add water!!! You can get hot Water at plenty of places once you pass thru security and on the plane!!! HTH

If possible try and upgrade to first class, so much roomier! and you wont be squished in between two people. The seats are bigger and there is usually just one person beside you. I hate flying coach! although maybe that will change post op?!?! :)

Also if you do online checkin 24 hrs before sometimes you can upgrade then and you have a better chance of getting it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
