I Had My Surgery But

Recommended Posts

My process is simple--I don't own a scale! I don't have to worry about being addicted to something that I don't have! Lol! I only get weighed when I go to the Dr, once a month. I have been able to see my weight loss over time and that works fine for me. In 5 weeks I have lost 43 lbs & I realize that I didn't get to 298 lbs (my surgery day weight) in a day & I won't lose it in a day. Everyone has to do what works for him/her...good luck! :)

Whether it is Water weight, connective tissue, muscle or fat there has been a steady decrease except for a stall at week 3. I don't think anybody can lose pure fat only. I just reported what I saw after a weekend of 5 hours on a horse and 10 miles of hiking.

Thanks for the info Ouroborous (eating your own tail?). I've seen the formulae before. At the beginning I was on nothing but Isopure liquid Protein for 2 weeks, then full liquids, then mushies. I'm taking in about 600-700 calories now, 60-70 grams of Protein and very low carbs (30 or so).

My main point is that I don't see anything wrong with a daily weigh-in if one isn't obsessed over it. It's a habit like brushing my teeth. If I eat badly I do see it almost immediately. That's how my body seems to work and the scale is part of my regimen that includes healthy eating and exercise. I've turned into a health nut.

I used stuff anything into my face - even if I didn't really like it all that much. Nuts huh? I now use the rule: "Q: Is it good for me and I like it? A: Eat away." "Q: Is it not the best choice, but I love it? A: Eat in tiny amounts." "Q: Is it bad for me and I'm ambivalent about it? A: Don't touch it."

Sorry, I got off topic, but I tend to ramble. About the scale thing -- Like someone said: To each his/her own. If you are getting upset by the numbers then ditch the scale. If you go away for a weekend and you are constantly dwelling on the fact that you haven't weighed in then ditch the scale. If a gain ruins your whole morning then ditch the scale.

Hey... you sound like an Exercise Physiologist! That or you have done quite a bit of research on how the body burns it's fuel (calories) and how to keep motivation up. Back in the day when I was fit and trained people, I would recommend they avoid the scale. But, to each his/her own! Some people need to see the numbers to feel like this procedure was worth it.

Well said!

Cattracks, you're doing great! Keep it up :D

If you can weigh yourself monthly' date=' you'll be MUCH happier, trust me. In the beginning, when the big changes occur, you'll be even happier because you'll see even more weight dropping.

And when you get further along on your weight loss journey, you'll also be happier because you won't drive yourself bonkers over normal little weight fluctuations.

That being said, most sleevers are glued to the scale at the beginning, with some even weighing themselves daily, and beating themselves up for "not losing a pound yesterday." That's just crazy, in my opinion.[/quote']

See that's what I thought I would be more happier just weighing myself monthly thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
