Flying After Surgery....

Recommended Posts

Can you guys please tell me how long after surgery did you fly (airline trip)? My surgery has been postpone (twice) until September 6, 2006 and I have a trip planned to Las Vegas for 4 days at the end of September and I was in the process of planning a trip to Australia for 1 week in October.

My surgery was supposed to be August 07, 2006. I don't want to go out of town or overseas and then get sick. I don't know what to do. Should I cancel surgery until November 2006 or should I keep my September 6 date??? My boyfriend says cancel until November. Australia is a once in a lifetime thing. I may never get back there again

I flew home from my surgery on the 3rd day, not a single problem. We were in the air for 5 hours, I had no reaction whatsoever. I buried my embarassment as I boarded the plane, and passed the flight attendant, I ask for a seatbelt extension, because I still had stitches. No one was paying any attention, they were either behind me and not seeing, or stowing their carry-ons, and settling in. She reached right behind her in the cabinet and handed it to me all rolled up, no one likely even knew what it was!!! It was THE way to get it!!! As it was I could have done without it, but it made it much more comfy, and no embarassment! But as far as flying, it was easy as could be. I would be sure to take a big dose of dramamine if you tend to get air sick, since throwing up is not good for the band. Good Luck on your banding, and have a great trip!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
