Wls Cures Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Etc.

Recommended Posts

I just got good news today. My wife told me her latest labs say she no longer needs cholesterol meds! She shed her need for diabetes medicine even before getting out of the hospital after her Roux N Y surgery. I got the sleeve and I have kicked my diabetes medicine as well, the disease that had a great deal to do with my dad dying at the age of 46. I am on the edge of ridding myself of high-blood pressure meds. Another 10 pounds should do it. My resting heart rate is down 30 BPM, my heart is happy.

I know WLS does not affect everyone the same but it sure is great that it can kick these bad boys out of your life.

Congrats to you and your wife!! I haven't had any diabetes meds (I was on 3) or high blood pressure meds (I was on 2) since my surgery date. I am praying it stays that way, but it is soon out of the gate so waiting to see what my first A1C brings. :D

My high blood sugar is also gone. My A1C was at 6 and my PCP said technically I am still diabetic until my A1C is below 6. I'm just happy I'm doing so well and my blood sugar level is down.! Here's to good health! ;)

I would say just say congrats but be careful depending on how long you were a diabetic it can return after weight loss surgery. I have a friend that lost 80lbs was off meds for 5 months but then needed them again but not as much as beofre. That darn pancres has a mind of its own at times. Make sure to just becareful and watch your levels

I hesitated to start this thread because I know that not everyone who has WLS drops diabetes and the other obesity related conditions. I am sure, however, that your health will improve as you put healthy eating, drinking, and exercise practices into your life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
