BridalMama 2 Posted March 29, 2012 After much deliberation, I have set a date to have the VSG. Since my insurance does not cover it (cosmetic?! Really?!) I will be self-pay, so thankfully I do not have to jump quite as many hurdles as many of you have. I am alternating between What have I gotten myself into? and I want to get it done tomorrow! I'm already grateful to all of you for sharing your stories, as it is what greatly influenced my decision to go forward with the procedure. At the seminar and through talking to my surgeon and nurses, I have not heard any mention of a 2-week liquid diet of any sort. My surgery date is 04/23/2012 so I feel like they would have mentioned it to me by now, right? Does everyone have to do that for Pre-op?
Cmullinvegas 39 Posted March 29, 2012 When I got my pre-op consultation with the coordinator, she told me 2 days of liquids, plus a laxative and an enema.
CaliKat 153 Posted March 30, 2012 Congrats on setting the date- the days seem to CRAWL by, especially when you read some of the posts by people that have been doing so well and have reached their goal weight (jealous! ) My Dr. is only having me do a 2 day clear liquid diet and no eating/drinking ANYTHING within 12 hrs of surgery. I think the 2 week diet is for people that may have inflamed livers- or even to jump start your way of thinking.... I dont know. My pre-op coordinator/physician assistant called me today (6 days before surgery) to give me diet instructions (before and after op) and go over whats going to happen on the day of surgery. Most likely, your PA will do the same. Congrats on taking matters into your own hands and schedulling your surgery- from one self pay to another, its going to be an investment thats worth it! -Kat
