Pegsinthewoods 8 Posted March 29, 2012 I'm an eroded gastric band survivor trying to be sleeved. I have been following sleeve forums for the past year and have compiled a list of folks and the complications they had. Sandyd – infection from surgery (Reno) (VS Talk) MeMeMEEE – leak (twice) (VS Talk) Driver63 – leak Tiffykins – leak (band revision) Hansi – stomach ruptured Dishdiva – leaks (Mexico) YellowRose – infected incision (Mexico) & drain tube infection DivaDee84 – Infected incision (Mexico) leak (still @ seven months) Honeyrubybee – splenic infarction TKDBlackbelt15 (fiancee) – leak Rblessed – leak Jen Jen – leak (Mexico) Ladiesassie – nicked liver (didn’t follow pre-op diet) Moore37042 – leak Jagator88 – leak & esophagus was destroyed and had to be rebuilt from muscle (Mexico) Jsfound – leak (VS Talk) Leisa815 – leak (VS Talk) Jasleeve – leak Joesph – leak Kuwait Peachqueen – leak Jcarelle – leak Jerseygirl74 – leak & spleen infarct Happylife – stricture (had a stent like a leak) Kookia – leak Even with the complications, I think most of the above had said they would do it again. 5 pacorvalan, Band2Sleever, chickadee73 and 2 others reacted to this
donniej 35 Posted March 29, 2012 Getting sleeved after a band erosion is possible, but the complication risk goes up considerably! I was sleeved after a (bad) erosion, I did have some complicatios but Its still worth it! 2 mschina415 and LilMissDiva Irene reacted to this
Pegsinthewoods 8 Posted March 29, 2012 May I ask what complications? I am trying to get my head ready for anything.

Pookeyism 1,143 Posted March 29, 2012 My Mom passed away a week after I was sleeved, and I had to handle the arrangements, and fly into VA from Houston, TX. I had a horrible time of it and had some sort of heaving/dryheaving episode mid-flight on the way back. I cannot say I had one major complication, but the stress seems to have slowed my progress alot - or what I think it would have been. I am definately dealing with an overload of the emotions we find hardest to deal with, anyway. But yes, I would do it again. 1 VSGAnn2014 reacted to this
MeMeMEEE 206 Posted March 31, 2012 Hi! I like that you have compiled this list - it gives anyone with a new complication a place to look for someone who has experienced something similar. I did want to let you know I had just 1 leak (1 time) - thinking maybe you are thinking of the abscess - it was discovered before my leak, but caused by my leak. Best of luck with your journey! I know that revisions are a bigger risk so lots of prayers your way!
Finding Myself 146 Posted April 2, 2012 I would be curious to know which doctors in Mexico were tied to the patients with the leaks. 3 Susysleever, Celaine47 and Jenniferkatie reacted to this
DogBone 1 Posted April 16, 2012 Well my wife cousin is in ICU right now, I don't know if you want to put her in the list, she's not is this forum yet, I hope she can in the future. She had a leak, a second surgery , she is 1.5 month out and she is in the ICU on a induced coma for the last 2 weeks, she has lung infection and is breathing with the help of a machine via a tracheostomy. DogBone 1 Posted April 16, 2012 So sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted. I will as soon something change, but she is like that for the last two weeks. They did the tracheostomy so they could get her out of the coma. But she woke in panic, her heart accelerated and her blood pressure increased so they putted her back in coma. DogBone 1 Posted April 17, 2012 So sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted. Well she died today at 10PM (Brasil local time). So I guess it's the first death on the VSG reported in this forum. They opened her chest to see what they could do with her lungs. Nothing to be done it's all infected, they closed and she died 6 hour later.
