Fatty Liver (nash)

Recommended Posts

I went for my final pre-op today and was told that I have a condition called NASH or non-alcohol fatty liver. Anybody out there have this also? I can be caused by being overweight but there are so many other reasons also.

I came home and got on the computer to find out everything there is to know and from what i can see, the lap-band just might of saved me from having to get a liver transplant in the future.

Low fat, high protien diet is one of the treatments of this condition.

I was also told that I had a fatty liver. My Dr. didnt seem to concerned with it. He told me that losing weight would help alot. He found it when I was having pain while I was pregnant. Turned out to be a hernia and had nothing to do with my liver. He just wanted to make sure.

I also have a fatty liver. I was on the 2 week pre op diet but when my surgeon was banding me he was shocked by it. He asked if a had really followed the pre op diet or not. He also said it would improve with the weight loss.

Booda, I'm glad you feel better. I have a fatty liver too. I was freaked out to think of fat infiltrating my organs -- yikes! I've read that alcoholic damage is the leading cause of liver failure, and fatty liver is the second. Not a thing to panic over, but not a thing to ignore, either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
