I'm 7 weeks out as of today, and last week the scale didn't move. I thought, ok, this is just the stall everyone talks about, it'll be fine. But this morning, I get on the scale and it's UP 0.8lbs!! I know this isn't a lot, but if it had gone down that much, I'd be happy, so I am equally upset about the gain. I started some weight training last week and am wondering if I'm retaining Water from the swelling (I know I haven't actually gained any muscle yet). Making matters worse is the fact that previously when I've dieted, I've gotten around the weight I am now and stalled or started regaining, so part of me feels like it's happening again. *SIGH* I'm just wanting some feedback; hopefully others have had this happen and can provide some insight--I am not a happy camper today! :(

Don't sweat it :) I know how hard it is but there are a TON of reasons why this could have happened. Since you just started weight training, that definitely could have affected your weight. Are you getting in enough Water everyday? Try upping it by a bottle every day for a little while to see if that helps. Also, if you happen to be around that time of the month you could be up because of that as well... combined? I wouldn't be surprised at all.

My suggestion is to leave to the scale alone for at least a week. Focus on your Water and your Protein and try not to worry. This is not like other diets. Your body may want to stall out for a little while, but ultimately you and your sleeve will force it to budge. Good luck and congrats on starting the weight training so early! That is awesome!

Raisin,

I agree with Emily. Ditch the scale for a week, and concentrate on doing what you are supposed to. The body does everything in its power to keep our weight stable. It's called homeostasis, an ancient survival mechanism for times of famine. I'm 3 1/2 months out, and can go up .5 of a pound without breaking the rules. Maddening, but something we just have to gut out, if you'll excuse the pun. :)

I'm two weeks preop, but it must be maddening to be following all the rules and barely eating just to hop on the scale and see a gain. That's definitely the kind of thing that would make me think "Well, this diet isn't working - I should give up and have a cookie." That scale can be such an enemy. Your gain is probably just your body storing Water to repair the muscles you're building - hopefully the scale will show results for you soon! Good luck!

This weight gain is what we call a bounce. It's basically Water weight and will be gone in a flash. Don't stress over it, just be grateful for where you are today and keep following the sleeve rules. ;)

I feel your pain. I'm 6 1/2 weeks out and I lost 40 like...right away! Then I stalled for 3 weeks then lost 4 more. Now I'm bouncing that 4 lbs up and down every other day. I'm about to SCREAM!!! I just want to start seeing some more downward movement. I feel the same way you do about being at that point where I've gotten myself before with "dieting" and then getting frustrated and giving up. I think if the scales start moving again, I will have the determination to go on. We can't let ourselves get taken down by the old thought patterns of "Well this is me, I might as well get used to it. Where's a donut???" I'm fighting it hard. God help us.

I am 7 weeks out and have had a small gain too, I was horrified but I remembered reading on here about it. I have been really stepping it up at the gym and I havent been getting enough fluids ( working on that) My weight is back down where it was so I feel better. Thanks to everyone here for posting their experiences, you are really helping all us newbies to this and we appreciate all your help. :D

Thanks for all of the advice and kind words--I just needed some reassurance, and you've all definitely given me that. It's good that I couldn't take these feelings and use them as an excuse to eat--there's no room for it! :) It's been pretty easy for me to resist the office Cookies and candy and whatnot, so I'll just take your advice and keep doing what I'm doing--maybe add more cardio and do less with the weights until I lose a bit more...thank you again!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
