SlevieNicks 9 Posted March 29, 2012 I have been reading all these horror stories about leaks and don't know what to think... I'm relatively healthy no comorbitities I'm just fat...the surgeon said I should be a-ok but after googling too much I think I'm freaking myself out... Did anyone else do this and how awful is a leak? What are my chances?
greensthings 7 Posted March 29, 2012 Leaks are VERY rare! Having the surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself! You said "I'm relatively healthy no comorbitities I'm just fat"....I want you to think about something for a minute...How many Fat, healthy old people have you ever seen? Fat is a wall we build around ourselves to protect ourselves from others. To get rid of it is scary and we will do most anything not to change that. It takes courage and determination to become a "normal" person. I KNOW you can do it! Keep talking on this blog, do research, talk to your Dr about your fears and you will soon realize that the only thing keeping you from having the surgery...is yourself! krissy20 27 Posted March 29, 2012 I'm in the same situation as you no comorbitities or any health issues either. I have been doing the same after reading about people who have had complications I think I'm freaking myself out !! Although yesterday I went to my preop class and they told us it's like a 1% chance of a leak occurring while in surgery they test the stomach for any leaks before the surgery is complete so hearing that was comforting I must add. Ultimately the risk of complications is very minimal for this procedure so I'm just praying all goes well with my surgery !
