Ok, So I just had my surgery on Tuesday the 12th. Today I am not doing the best. I hate that feeling of gurgling and gas in my tummy. At times it cramps up and is uncomfortable. I also catch myself counting down the minutes to my pain meds. I realize that it is only a few days out and that this is a process, but I was wondering when that gurgling feeling goes away? I was also wondering when I will start feeling somewhat normal again? I have been uping my drinking of course. And I personally think that I am doing the best I can. The nurse told me I wouldn't get 64 oz in for a while and today its 508pm and I have drank 30oz so far. Is that good? How long until I can drink more? Thank you all for these answers they are truly helpful!l

Hi Brandy, I had my surgery on the 11th. The 3rd day after seemed to be the most gurgly and cramping feeling. Today is 5 days out for me and its quieted down a lot....still there tough. I am TOTALLY impressed that you can get in 30oz of liquids already. I seem to be getting about 20 or so. Today is better....I think I have already had 18 and its mid-day. I am just going to take it one day at a time. When I left the hospital they assured me that whatever I can manage day to day is perfectly normal for me.....there's no standard normal. I am not exercising 30 minutes of fast passed walking and breaking a sweat.....I walk around the house and do little things and I walk up and down my street 2 or 3 times a day. I will not push myself to do more than that this soon after surgery. This is my "normal" :) Continue to do the best you can! You will get there in due time. Good Luck!

No bc in my program we dont start vit and B12 til week 5

oh my, my Doc started me immediately. I hated the chewable Multi Vitamins so I got the gummys and I chew 4 a day. The b12 of course goes under the tongue and I feel the energy almost immediately. I'm sorry ur going thru that but ur the only one of the 12 ppl from work that all had this surgery that was told to wait 5 weeks. I'm not liking that at all, u need ur vitamins.....

Hey all!!

My surgery date was the 9th. I can completely relate to the gas. At this point for me it hasn't gone away, but I do find that I experience it most after a "meal" or drink. I have also noted that it is cruvial to SLOW DOWN when eating. If you don't you will feel like you have a knot in ur chest, that only burping and puking can cure. This part totally sucks, and it makes it hard to breathe hard to sit up, etc. I recommend buying a baby spoon to eat all ur meals. And what has worked for me is eating alone while doing something else that is distracting me. For exampke, my meals at work, while emailing etc, are splendid, but at home, while eating with my husband, have been horrible. I experienced esophageal spasms after surgery, especially when I returned home. It literally feels like an explosion in my stomach as the drink is pushed down. It's a horrible sharp pain that I felt deep into my mid back. If u look it up Web MD compares it to heart attack pain. At one point I did think I was totally going to die or sprang a leak. I went to the ER and all came out clear. After seeing my surgeon for my first post op he said it's basically like a Charlie horse in the musculature or ur esophagus and that it would go away with time. I must say it totally has since yesterday. I began feeling like myself again by day 5-6 post op. I will say that I felt totally weak, but tried at all costs to stay hydrated. I just got my Vitamins today so I will be starting on that first thing tomorrow. I had chronic heartburn pre op that i self medicated. Post op i have had none whats so ever. My stool was loose and this has continued. You will feel like ur regaining control of your bowels by day 456 or so. This might be TMI but as my bothers and sisters in the sleeve, it makes it all less scary when you know someone has been there.

17 lbs down so far. Hang in there guys!! You can do this!!

Hi, I should have asked my surgeon or nut this but never did. What is the reason for having us drink so many ounces of Fluid per day? My surgery was 9/10 and I am really struggling to get them down. I am so sick of Water. I thought if I knew the health reason for it, it might help me.

It's for dehydration. Just drink as much as you can!

I would follow up with ur primary doctors nurse. I'm sure it's fine, but I would make a call just in case.

Okay, this Q&A has been very helpful, but I must confess that I am now in stage where I am so pissed that I cannot eat solids, (day 14) that I went out to the grocery store and bought a pizza....then, instead of trying to eat it (I am sure it probably would of made me feel like I wanted to die) I broke it up into six little pieces and individually wrapped them and put them in the freezer for when I can maybe attempt to have a treat way down the line.

Am I nuts?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
