Hi everyone, I became interested in the sleeve when my younger sister had it last November. I was happy for her and scared for me. I said that I wouldn't be jealous of her, but everytime I saw her she just looked better and more healthy. In January I was diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. Like a combo of Arthritis and Lupus, plus some Fibromyalgia. I decided then that I couldn't deal with this and be this heavy. My insurance doesn't pay for weight loss surgery, so I was going to be self pay. During my testing my doctor found a very large hiatal hernia, so now my insurance will be kicking in part of the surgery and hospital stay.

I am four weeks out now and feel great. I am loosing somewhat slow since surgery, but I can definately tell in my clothes and even shoes.

I have lost a total of 35 pounds, but lost the majority of that because I started my pre-op dieting 3 weeks before surgery.

I had my surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in Houston Texas and my surgeon was Dr. Todd Worley, I would recommend him to anyone. Wonderful bedside manner, now he will put you thru the ringer in testing, but it was for my own good I know.

Julie

hello everyone, I am new to the group. I had surgery in Lake Charles, La. with Dr. Richard Shimer. I also had health issues, b/p and hypothyroidism, and taking meds for both. Tried for years to loose weight but no matter what i did or ate I couldn't loose (the thyroid), so I discovered VS by "accident". My late husband's SIL had it and I ran into her in Jan, she looked awesome, then by chance a co-worker happened to mention it to me that same week so I started looking into it and researching then in April I started the process, I was shooting for July because my ins required a 10 week "METS" weight loss program, I so I went to meetings, had a letter from GP, went to counseling and sent all in to ins for approval to start METS program. On May 4, 2012 my ins did away with "METS" and on May 7 I rec'd my approval for surgery letter, then dr had an opening on May 17 so I had 10 days to prepare when I thought I had over 2 months. No pre surgery diets so I had surgery on may 17 at 45 y/o and 326lbs and HIGH hopes. so far very little troubles except for tiredness. I am down 36lbs from highest (330) and 32 from surgery weight. released fro exercise and to eat what I want, last week so now it is up to me!!!! Hope you all are doing well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
