Five Weeks Post Op And Feeling Great

Recommended Posts

Before surgery I was 326 and I am now down to 275.I had been overwight to morbidly obese since childhood. Now I am finally going to be the woman I always wanted to be. The first four weeeks were the hardest. I am now eating solids, which is a whole new experience. I did find that I could still eat pretty much anything but just in small bites, and I get alot of gurgling in my stomach after meals. Drinking Water on a regular basis is a challenge aside from drinking juice. I don't know why but water just doesn't seem to want to go down that easy for me. Thats going to take some getting used to. Anyway, I hear alot of post op's saying that they are not feeling 100% at the beginning, but I have to say that I feel great. I'm back at work and everyone has told me that I'm glowing. I am so glad that I made the decision to have vertical sleeve.

Thank you for your post, it offers great reassurance to people like me who are yet to be sleeved. My Op is on Tuesday and I hope that I too can post a similar tale to yours in 5 weeks time.

That is great, I'm so happy for you. I had my surgery 3 month and 2 weeks ago, and I have never looked back. I have felt great ever since. I weighed 260 and now I'm at 200. So I have so much to be happy for. I love being a women again, that is able to go to the store and pick clothes off the regular size rack. I always felt so ashamed going to the big size stores, that was just me. Last year, I went on a cruise, and the bathing suit looked more like a big ugly dress, that I was wearing, I get to go on that same cruise next week, and my bathing suit is a size med. this year, and it is cute and hot looking. So excited. So I think if your feeling great now, you will continue to have a great outcome.

Hi! I also am at 5 weeks and wondering what you are eating. I am still home from work. I feel okay but do not have much energy to eat or do anything. How do you find the energy? Thanks!

Protein try to eat some protein as much as you can. At first I felt really weak but when when I made my boyfrient a grilled porkchop I took a small piece for myself. once I ate it within 15 minutes I had a surge of energy. I am walking about a mile a day sometimes half a mile and I have been using the shake weight for upper body tone, and it's great.

Yay! I am glad you are doing well. I was the same, I was only tired the first week, after that I was ready to go! For everyone waiting to get their sleeves, dont be afraid, it will be a challenge but a good one. Everyone is a bit different, maybe not have as easy a time as some of us but it does get better...soon! I think if you have a positive attitude it works wonders. This is a life changing surgery, there will be ups and downs, happy and sad times but the end result will be amazing! Best of luck to the sleevers coming up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
