How Long Were You In The Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I've heard people say they had to stay 5 days, some say they did the surgery as an outpatient and went straight home... What's the average stay? What are the deciding factors that the docs look for before releasing you?

I was in the hospital overnight. My surgery was at 7am and I left the hospital by 9am the next morning. The doctor just wanted to see that I could keep fluids down before I was discharged.

I spent four days in the hospital. Had surgery Monday morning, got sent home that Thursday evening on Thanksgiving. To be honest, it should have been longer but I wanted to go home.

I had my surgery at 10am and went home the next day around 6pm. Should have been earlier, but the discharge nurse lost my instructions and it took hours for them to find! Doctor made sure I was urinating a decent amount, was about to take in fluids on my own, no fever, good blood pressure, managed pain, and could walk around easily.

I was in for 48 hours. Day 1 was

Surgery and recovery. Day 2 was the dreaded

Barium swallow with X-ray to test for leaks, and we were allowed to drink Water immediately after. The next morning we had Jello, juice and broth to test and make sure it stayed down, then my surgeon came in and asked if I felt good enough to go home - he said I could stay longer if I felt I needed to. I left! There's nothing like being at home - and I missed my kids like crazy!

I was in the hospital for 2 days and it definitely should have been longer... I lied about my Fluid intake because I wanted to go home - My son was coming home from his weekend at his dads house and I missed my baby boy.

My surgeon does VSG in an out patient facility. I checked in at 0800, walked out at 230 in the afternoon. Went to the radiology dept at the hospital the next morning for esophogram, then to the surgeon's office for IV fluids. The following day back to the surgeon's office to have my drain removed. I was happy that I got to do it this way, because then I could sleep in my own bed at night with my doggies.

I was in for 48 hours, because of all the swelling that occurs. It makes it really hard to get all the fluids in. Of course I felt ready after the first day--thanks to the wonderful drugs fir pain and swelling! But once I got home it was pretty tough for a few days! Wasn't able to get the required fluids in until about 4 days post-op! Now I'm a week out and feel great! My surgeon lives by the 60/60/60 rule!! 60 ounces of clears/ 60 grams Protein and 60 minutes of walking per day---no trouble getting that in!!!

I was in overnight. I had my surgery at 9:30 am, and was discharged around 3pm the following day. I was up and doing laps around the hospital floor by 7pm, and tested fluids around 9pm (the day I had surgery). My surgeon came by after he was done with his surgeries for the day- only reason I was there until 3-he checked my incisions, pain levels, and Fluid intake. All the surgeries done through my Dr office are overnight stays.

Overnight. I had my surgery at 0845 one morning and the next day my surgeon came and checked my incisions and I went home. I'm wondering what makes one surgeon's process so different from the other. I didnt get any jp drains, leak tests, barium swallows, or urinary catheters. I wonder what the determining factors are in such things. I'm not saying one way is better by any means, just different I suppose.

I was there for two nights. Had surgery this past Monday morning and spent the rest of the day recovering. Tuesday morning was the leak test and starting my Fluid intake. Got to have Water, broth and these little fruit ice cups. Most of it was waster because I could take in only a few tablespoons at a time and I'd pass out for a nap after a few spoonfuls. Then this morning (wednesday), they made sure my vitals were good and let me go home.

The most common timeframe is to stay overnight and get the swallow study the next morning and if all ok, go home. I actually had surgery at 730am and sent home around 230pm same day, had swallow study at surgeons office the next day. It was nice to be home, but I needed lots of help to make it through the first 2 days ( I always get overly sedated from anesthesia... Takes 2 days to feel clear headed again!)

I was in overnight. I would have preferred two nights, but in the end one night was enough.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
