Hey all. Before surgery, I didn't have co-morbidities, except some joint pain. No high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Well, also before surgery, my blood pressure was darn near perfect, usually averaging 110 over 70, sometimes going as low as 105 over 60. I've noticed that after surgery, it's been higher, whether measured at the doctor's or the blood pressure machine at Walmart. I tested it today and it read 128 over 76. I know that's still pretty normal, but it's gone as "high" as 135 over 85ish.

This makes no sense to me. I'm healthier than I have been in a long time, eating a lot better, exercising more, and about 70 pounds lighter than my highest weight ever. So why is my blood pressure higher now than when I was morbidly obese? I guess I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if there's some medical explanation. I'm not necessarily complaining because my bp is still pretty normal, I'm just curious.

Well no that is a little strange. Are you comsuning more salty food or eating more salt on your foods. What are you drinking for fluids????? I would check the sodium content in the foods that you are eating as it does not seem that your pressure should increase. I do not trust the machines at Walmart as they are not very reliable. Have you ever had white coat syndrome????

I don't eat any more salt than I used, probably even less. I never was one to pile the salt onto food (I'm into pepper ;)) or eat overly salty food. 90% of what I drink is Water, the other 10% is some sort of juice. Today was the first time I used the bp machine at Walmart. When I got to the doctor, though, my blood pressure is still around 125-130 over 80-85. Like I said, still fairly normal but a lot higher than what it used to be. I can't use the excuse that I'm just worked up because I'm at the doctor's because pre-op, the same doctor would measure my bp as 110 over 70. I've never heard of white coat syndrome.

White coat syndrome is when you go to the doctor your blood pressure goes up as you get nervous. Now that I have more info I am stumped and will have to think about this one.

I guess this has happened to no one else or there's no medical reason for it...

I'm taking HBP medication since surgery... I never had issues prior to surgery... My BP went up the day after surgery and stayed there until they started pumping me w/ Lopressor...

I don't know why... but I know that it happened!! 3 months later, I'm still on meds.. hopefully w/ exercise and continued weight loss, this will go away too!

Mine rose a but too, but because I went off BP meds that were causing it to go too low. That's not something I've heard happen before. Best wishes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
