I went to my 1st appt. and had to pay $80 for EKG and a H. Pylori test, $50 for blood work. I found out I have to pay $40 for a stress test another H.Pylori test (bc I tested positive), EGD, and a Frontera test ($80)! Grand total of $290, I don't mind paying being that it helpful to me. But when I found out that it may not go toward my deductible, I am questioning the payments! Did anyone else have to do this? I have UHC.

The only costs I incurred that didn't come off my deductible were the nutritonists appointments...because my ins doesn't cover a nutritionist. And that's the only reason. Maybe your ins doesn't cover those things??? I would certainly call and find out before u pay for anything else.

I have UHC, and I paid so far only for my Nutrition stuff in advance ($40.40 per time, over $200 total), and will pay a $20 bill to the fitness professional every time I see him (7 times before surgery).

Have not started anything, just had blood work done, saw my surgeon, and waiting to see if I have to pay $625 for a sleep study out of pocket (some kind of fee).

By the way, hello, my name is Kathryn and I just put my first post up to introduce myself in the "Tell Us Your Story" part!

I have UHC Choice plus. I only had to do X-rays, bloodwork, nutritionist and psych exam. I'd call the bariactrics department for UHC and have them clarify what your plan requires of you.

Once you test positive for H. Pylori you will always test positive for it. You need to give a stool sample to test for it, not a blood test, if you have already tested positive for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
