Can I Have Corn? What About Coconut? Why Or Why Not?

Recommended Posts

My doctor told me I could eat anything at all in moderation. I guess each dr. is different. I eat corn, coconut whatever. The only thing I really can't tolerate is ice cream for some reason. It makes me so sick.

OMG..We could be twins! We had surgery on the same day..have lost about the same amount of weight, started about the same weight...and for some reason ice cream makes me sick too! It is really the only food that I don't eat. As far as corn, I have had some, not in mass quantities (although nothing really is anymore) and I haven't had any problems.

I eat a lot of fibrous foods too, but I didn't till I was more than 6 months out. Just had an artichoke yesterday - talk about Fiber, but so good!

I gotta know! What did you dip the artichoke in? I used to dip mine in Mayonnaise or butter. I've been dying for an artichoke!

A little light mayo. I saw a recipoe that blended Greek yogurt, light mayo and lemon juice and garlic. I'm gonna try that next time.

I asked my doc about this when the subject of a bezoar came up last time. He said I could have corn, celery, coconut, or anything else without worry. Since I love celery, that was a huge relief for me! :) Ask your doctor what s/he says about those items, though. Of course, if they say no to something, it is a good idea to listen to them. I'm not 100% compliant with my doc's NO list, but I try to stick pretty close to it. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
