Hey all!

We are compiling a list of the most frequently asked questions for the newly sleeved to refer to and we wanna know - what questions did you have Post-op about VSG, the surgery itself, recovery, diets, exercise.. Whatever!?

All of your questions will be compiled, answered, and pinned for the future newly sleeved..

So please, be open, be honest, be blunt even! And remember that the only dumb questions are the ones left unasked.

Let's hear 'em!

Questions about hair loss: will I lose hair? how much? what causes it? when does it return? do vitamines help?

Questions about Constipation or bowels (sorry, but I've read lots of these): what is it okay to take, especially in the begining when newly sleeved? will it get better? worse?

Questions about energy and work: will I feel fatigue? will fatigue go away? When can I go back to work? how much time should I take off?

I have more but lets see what others post....

How about:

How do I add a ticker to my profile?

When do I start mushies/purees?

What's the difference?

What do all these acronyms mean?

What can I have during liquid stage?

I posted this one when I was pre op. At one time it was labeled "hot," so there must have been a lot of interest in the answer:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28743-how-does-the-stomach-heal-together-from-vsg-surgery-can-anyone-tell-me/page__p__245266__hl__+staple%20+heal__fromsearch__1#entry245266

I asked how the staple line actually heals. I wanted to know if it becomes a bound together unit, or if the staples forever did all of the holding together.

What about...

1. I'm stalled at week 3. Is this normal? How do I get the scale to move?

2. I'm having problems with Vitamins / Protein. What's the best product out there?

3. What do I do with flabby skin? What's the best exercise etc.?

Hope this is helpful!

I missed salad so much! I'm so glad I bit the bullet and gave it a shot a couple weeks ago - I love rabbit food :D

What do all of the acronyms and "lingo" mean? (that one has kept me from posting more... do not want to feel stupid about posting something that was already there just in VSG "slang)

Links to various online diets and stages from VSG surgeons (what works for one may not work for another...giving ourselves options makes, I know ME, feel more in control and more apt to comply, during this VERY out of control time period)

Poop... some of us have constant runny ones several times a day... others need a little help... what is "normal"

CHEAP links... I have found most of the specific bariatric products to be very costly. ex... my Vitamins are actually more well rounded than Bariatric Advantage and with a subscription to them from Amazon I only pay $8 every 2 months.

Sometimes it sucks... and that is OK.

Sometimes there are complications... Does not mean you had a bad surgeon or did anything wrong... so that is OK also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
